Upgrading to APs at check-in, can I still buy DDE??

When we go to WDW in 2 weeks we'll have 2-day MYW base tickets. We're considering upgrading to APs, and we'd want to purchase the DDE card and use it from the first day of our trip (I know we'd have to go to Epcot Guest Services to pick up the DDE voucher). Has anyone else done this at check-in, or beforehand? Thanks for any info or personal experience with this

I can tell you that you can't purchase APs at check in. You must buy them at Guest Services at a park or DTD. You can also buy them at the ticket booths such as at the TTC.

After you have the APs, you can call the DDE office to join DDE. But the offices are only open M-F. Once you place the call, you can pick up the temporary card (not a voucher) at Epcot main entrance GS as you know but only after 5:30pm.

If you purchase an AP on site, and do not have the voucher in advance, it is possible to get a temporary DDE card. Also this works if there is very little lead time between your ordering the card and your arrival.

1. Call the DDE office at 407-566-5858 between 8:30am and 4:00pm Monday to Friday (except Holidays) and give them your name, the string of letters and numbers on the bottom of the pass (starting with a "W") and your credit card information. If you are a Florida Resient and not an AP holder they will ask for your Florida Driver's license (or State ID) number.

2. Starting at 5:30pm that day, and any time it is open, you can go to the Guest Relations Window outside Epcot's Main Entrance (On your right as you face Spaceship Earth) with a photo ID and you will be given an envelope.

3. The envelope will have in it a temporary card which expires 30 days from the date of the request and a sheet of paper listing all locations which currently accept the card.

4. The plastic embossed card whould arrive at your home within a month. The expiration date on the embossed card will be either the last day of the current month in the next year, or if you ordered it late enough in the month it will be the last day of the following month the next year.

Also, if you purchase it between the first and about the 7th of a month it will expire the next year on the last day of the same month. If your purchase is after the 10th, the expiration will be the last day of the following month the next year. If you order it between the 7th and 10th is anybody's guess.

So, according to what you've both said, this scenario should work:

Arrive at Polynesian around noon on Friday, July 27th. Check in, and head over to the Magic Kingdom. Turn our 2-day tickets into APs at Guest Services, then make a phone call immediately to the DDE phone number, and purchase the DDE card over the phone. Then that night after 5:30pm we would be able to be at Epcot Guest Services to pick up the temporary card. Is this correct??

Yes, your scenario will work as far as purchasing APs and DDE. I don't know the rules about the MYW tickets though. If Cheshire doesn't and no one else responds, try shooting GoldenOldie a pm.

I've found out that we can upgrade our MYW tickets to APs, we'll just pay the difference in price between what they cost, and what the APs cost. I just wasn't sure how quickly we could buy the DDE card after getting the APs. I'm glad to know that we can immediately call the DDE number and that we'll be able to pick up the temporary card the same day. After paying $65 for the card, we want to start getting the discount right away.
