Upgrading to AP on the first day of a package - can I access AP hotel discount for current stay?

Hello, all! I know this is, at this point, a hypothetical question since APs aren't currently being sold. But generally speaking, if I upgrade to an AP on the first day of a package stay, is there any way to apply an AP discount to that same stay (assuming no other discounts were applied to the package)?

I seem to recall that you need to show the activated AP within a day or two of check-in. But, booking it, you'd probably have to do it via phone.

You cannot change to an AP discount at check-in, but you can book the AP discount by phone and then upgrade your tickets when you get there. However that is a room-only rate with separate ticket purchase and not a package. I don't believe you can convert a package to an AP discount.

At least under "normal" times this was allowed. Right now, I'm not sure if they will allow you to book an AP rate without the AP in your MDE because APs aren't available for purchase.
