Upgrading to AP but already bought MM?

I did a search, but I didn't see what I was looking for. We have tickets for our trip in a month or so and bought the memory maker. But now we are considering upgrading our tickets to annual passes (debating doing Gold as we are DVC or doing the Platinum Plus) which include the memory maker. So what happens to the one we already bought? Can we get a refund?

Contact Disney and kindly ask for a refund. There's been plenty of people that have gotten a refund for this very situation. I would call sooner rather than later

I called and was told they couldn't "refund" the cost of the Memory Maker, but they would apply the cost of it towards the upgrade of our tickets to passes in case anyone else wondered.

This is what they did for us in June- we had already bought MM as well and decided to upgrade to AP, and they just gave us credit for the MM when they did it. I had already figured the math before I went and they for sure took it off.

Previous posters recommendation is how I would do it. There is always a chance you will not upgrade as circumstances change all the time. If you do upgrade, guest relations can remove MM and put the cost towards the price of the AP upgrade so you don't loose any money. If you don't upgrade, then you have MM ready to go for photos from this trip.
