Upgrading QS dining

Ugh...I HATE dealing with Disney reservations. I hate the way they refuse to break down prices for you or tell you WHY things cost what they do.

Situation: DH called a few days to upgrade our free QS dining to the plus plan. We have 2 adults plus a 10 year old (so 3 adults), then 2 kids. I was doing some math today, and it looks like they way overcharged us for the upgrade. It should be $11/day for the adults and nothing for the kids, right? They charged us nearly $200 more than that (for 7 nights).

So DH is on the phone with them again. First the reservation guy was quoting 2012 prices to him (we're going next month), and then he transferred him to customer service, where the woman is claiming she can't even tell him how much he's being charged for the dining plan. "I don't have that information."

Okay, so what do we do? I'm not wrong, am I? About how much it should cost?

The reservations guy was actually trying to tell him "it's only a few dollars a day" difference, and we shouldn't worry about it. Umm, the "few dollars a day" times 3 adults times 7 days really adds up, dude!

apparently they can't figure it out either. They're "working on it" and they're going to call us back. They said something about a "weird charge on the rooms." This really seems like something that should be completely straightforward.

You're right. It should only be $231 over whatever the package was BEFORE you decided to upgrade. That's (11x3)x7. The kids are the same price.

When I called on Sunday to do the same thing, upgrade us to the next step up from the QS dining plan they told me for 6 days it is 233 for two adults. That seemed somewhat high to me. Am I right?
How did you figure out $11 per adult per day? If it was only that we'd do it but the $233 dollar figure for six days really put us off. (Mon nite through sat nite since Disney figures nites not days)

Heh--never mind; I'm a big dummy. The number I was looking at included adding one night onto the reservation, not just the dining upgrade. Of course, it took three people at Disney to figure out what that number was, so that makes me feel a little less stupid, anyway.

The difference between QS and DDP for adults is $11, so that is all you should be paying to upgrade. $11 per person per night, so your's should only be $132.

I'd call back and see if you get someone who can give you the right answer.

huh--really? I get the $11 from here, since it's impossible to find on Disney's website (as far as I can tell). but, yeah, that sounds high. Are you going in 2011? ETA: just saw in your sig that you are...yeah, weird. Like I said, the guy at reservations was quoting 2012 prices to me, so I wonder if there's a glitch somewhere

Now DH is on the phone with them again (they called back and left a message, and, in the meantime, I thought I had figured it out), and he's been talking to them forever, so maybe the explanation isn't as simple as I thought?

Not to be excusing poor customer service, but I really don't think they have that information on the reservations line, broken out the way you are asking. They see lump sum type info which is why they can often only tell you the difference in the entire package price.

When you see quotes like $11/day to upgrade, etc., those are numbers that have been calculated by people like DISers based on changes they made and posted here to help others.

Disney views the dining packages as just that - packages. And Walt Disney Travel Company can sometimes do oddball things within the packages (tweaks to ticket prices for example) to make the total number come out the way they want. Those in the know about individual prices for things like tickets for example (meaning ticketing staff members at the parks) have said they don't really know how things are priced within the WDTC packages for sure.

Yep, called again this morning and its still more than it should be. They quoted us $40 more per day than $22 ($11 per person). I guess we won't be upgrading...... crap.

No, I don't think they do, either (if they do, they put on a pretty good act of ignorance )...I just think it's really frustrating that they don't have access to that information. I mean, somoene knows why the packages are priced the way they are; why can't the people paying for them have that information? Sometimes I've priced out a package on the website and then been given a completely different number on the phone, and the person couldn't tell me why.

It's funny...a couple of days after we were trying to figure this out, I got a survey in my e-mail from Disney. It was all about whether you use a travel agent to book or book directly and why, and one of the questions wanted me to rate how easy it is to find pricing information on Disney's website .

SOMETHING has to be wrong. Are you sure you didn't upgrade to the DELUXE dining plan? Or possibly add something like hoppers or WP&M to your tickets? There is NO way--ZERO chance-- that your package is correct. There is an error somewhere. They can't just make up a random charge. Something has to be incorrect on your reservation.
