Upgrading PHP to an AP question

I know I can apply my park hopper pass to an annual pass at WDW. Can I use 2 diff. passes that have 1 day left towards 1 annual pass? Does the annual pass have to be activated while you're there? Sounds dumb, but we're going in June for 1 day and have a hopper for that day and want to apply our other hopper passes to an annual pass to begin in Jan. on our next trip. We want to receive annual pass room discounts and will need to activate it right before our trip. Next question is that I understand we need them activated before we check-in. If we're flying in and arriving around 10:00 at night, where can we go to activate them? We're flying into Tampa. Thank you for any help.

You go to a guest services office in any of the parks. They will swipe your passes and determine their value and you pay the difference to whatever you want to upgrade them to.

If you buy the AP at WDW, you are buying an activated pass. I don't know if I'm clear on your intentions. Do you need the AP for room discounts in June? If not, don't bother. You will come out much better if you wait until you arrive in January to trade your hopper pass for the AP. I don't know for sure if you can trade in more than one pass for your AP, but I think you can. I believe I read of someone doing that.

Hmmm...I'm not sure your plan will work. I'm almost certain that A. you have to do the upgrade within X number of days of activating your PHP, and B. that the AP upgrade is back-dated to the first day you used the PHP. You'll still get the discount in January, but your APs will have a start date for June. I may be wrong; perhaps someone who is more knowledgable will jump in.

If you use your passes with one day on them toward an AP, you will get credited for value left on the pass(es)- you will then pay the difference. The only time you want to upgrade within 7 days of first using a pass, is when you want Full credit towards the AP.

I did both. Used 2 old PH passes with 2 days each towards a 5 day PH. The on the 3rd day we upgraded to AP's. The AP's were credited from the first day we used the new 5 day PH's.
