Upgrading once on site?

I was trying to switch from POP to Poly but there is no availability for my dates and room type I want. I am thinking of just keeping POP and upgrading once I get there...is that even an option? Can I show up to POP (I will be renting a vehicle) and ask them if we can upgrade once we are there? How will they determine how much I pay for the upgrade when I booked through a third party? Thanks.

If there is availability once you get there, you should be able to move. With that said, you will most likely be quoted rack rate for the Poly. Discounts usually don't carry over if you upgrade/move after you get there, so if you booked Pop with a discount, you will pay the difference between your rate at Pop and rack rate at the Poly.

As long as there is availability, yes. But if there's none now I don't expect there to be any once you arrive.

Sure you can ask but see above.

Subtract what you've paid already from the cost of the upgrade. Be aware that you are not able to change some 3rd party, or special Travel Agent reservations.

Like another poster said, you will be paying rack rate at the Poly, minus what you already paid the third party site. If you got a discount on the 3rd party site for the Pop, they wont give you that same discount on the Poly. The rate on the 3rd party site was for the room you booked at the resort you booked, NOT any room at any resort owned by Disney. So you are probably looking at triple to quadruple the price per night.

I've done this but for different reasons.
First, they can't tell what you paid with your 3rd party site. You will be on your own to get a refund from the 3rd party site (unlikely too) for the unused dates. Disney can give you a check out form that shows you left early. There is no "upgrade with Disney" choice in this case.
Second, if you walk up to the counter at Poly to book they can only book rack rate. Even if there is a promo valid for your dates. We stood there at the counter and booked on the phone to get the AP rate. Then we checked in at the counter.
