Greetings!

We have a two week trip in August with a 10 day park hopper ticket plus free dining.

I’m interested in upgrading to an annual pass at some point before or during the trip.

When is the best time to do it and what is the best way to do it?

My questions:

1) would it mess up my free dining package at all?

2) would it mess up my fast pass selections at all?

3) During the second week of our trip we have two days of Halloween parties, but we can’t go into the park before 4 because the other 10 days on the ticket are accounted for… If we upgrade to the annual pass, can we go in before 4 also?

4) do I get full value for my tickets purchased towards the annual pass?

Thanks for any help :-)

EDIT:
THIS THREAD IS OVER A YEAR OLD.
THE OP's TRIP was LAST YEAR.

Thanks for the help… Other than being able to go into the park for more than 10 days during my trip, are there any other benefits of upgrading to the annual pass early in the trip as opposed to later in the trip?

Also, is there any downside to upgrading during my trip that I’m not thinking about?

Thanks ALOT for the help

Did it last year, as already indicated, it doesn't mess up free dining or fp's.

As for where/ when... Before you want to use AP or benefits whenever it's convenient for you and where you are at the time. I did it at MK guest services near end of evening, there was a bit of a line at that time though, so waited about 15 minutes in line, then another 15-20 to do the upgrade.

Upgrading early means you have more days to take advantage of AP perks (discounts, etc)...

But it also means your expiration date is a couple days earlier as well. :teeth:

There are AP discounts for merchandise/food.. also if get the Platinum to go to water parks if want. More flexibility the earlier you do it.

Sorry, but that's not the case.

The expiration date will be from when first used the original tickets, not when upgrade.

Correct.

1. Discounts on food and merchandise.
2. Nope.

Just bumping as our situation is a 'bit' different. I am looking at a FD package, and would only need a 4 day PH. I plan on paying with my Disney Visa to get the 6 months 0% interest toward the package. Since I can't do the 0% toward ticket purchases I'm thinking of getting a 10 day PH with the package, and then upgrade to AP. Would this work too?

Yes, it would! It's very easy too, just go to any Guest Services and they will do the upgrade for you. I do it the first night so if we decide to purchase anything we get the passholder discount.

20% merchandise discount. How many people in your party? As it gets closer, look for room discounts. You may find the room discount to be better than free dining especially if you purchase discount tickets from a broker like www.undercovertourist.com.

Also with AP you can buy a Tables in Wonderland card, $150 www.tablesinwonderland.com that gives you 20% off food and alcohol at many table service restaurants, counter service restaurants at the value resorts, and a couple counter service restaurants at Animal Kingdom Park.

Definitely, crunch the numbers to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

Have fun!
