for speedlights it depends on the features and price - ETTL ? HSS? ability to control other flashes?

I can't help on the Speedlight topic but for a lightweight tripod I'd encourage you to take a look at the ones from MeFoto. I don't use them myself but know many photographers who absolutely love them and wouldn't choose anything else. They make a wide range of different sizes but all focus on lightweight and small when collapsed. Not to mention an amazing array of colors. They'll be plenty strong enough to hold your 80D in all but the windiest conditions.

Hi,

When I travel I use an Amazon Basics Carbon Fiber tripod. It folds down to ~12 inches [perfect for shoulder bags and lockers] and extends to a max height of ~52 inches [i'm 6'1" and i do have to bend a little for the camera to be eye level]. But best of all it is less than $100 [i think its about $90?]. Sorry, i cant help with the canon speedlight [I typically use Sony gear].

I've been very happy with my Luxi l iii for our Disney trips. It folds down small and light. I can get it in my backpack if I need to. Maximum height is 64.5". That height is why I bought it!
