Hello DIS friends,

After a break from Disney for one whole family vacation DD has said she wants to go back to her happy place, Disneyland!

After 3 trips in less than 5 years I'm trying to make the next vacation a bit different to please DH. I'm hoping to tie our trip in with either Gay Days 2016 (fall 2016) or Dapper Days(spring 2016 ) so we can stay onsite for our first time.

Since this will most likely be the one and only time at an onsite property I would love to upgrade to a view room if possible but I know through the general res it's just for a standard room.

Am I able to call Disney directly and upgrade an existing reservation and does anybody know the scaling costs to upgrade? Should I refer to Disney reservations and just look at the cost difference between standard and dlx/premium and the nightly cost difference?

I know our dates are far away but Dapper Days already has spring prices and it's my understanding they sell out fast!

Thanks so much - happy planning! :)

I am curious about this myself. I also had never heard of Dapper Day - that sounds awesome! Thanks for the tip!

I would love to do Dapper Days as it would be such fun to see everyone so stylish around the Parks! I don't know if I would indulge in a full outfit but I'm pretty sure I could rock an awesome fascinator :)

You could try calling Disney directly to try to upgrade and see what happens. If anything, they'll re-direct you to their convention line for upgrading information since both Dapper Days and Gay Days are treated as "conventions" (for pricing and hotel block purposes) by Disney.

I'm participating in Gay Days weekend for the first time this fall and have my room at the DLH all booked! Can't wait. :)

Happy planning! :)

Can't wait to hear how it goes for you :)

I've done Disney at Halloween time before and I would definitely do it again. The month of May seems to have a higher chance of ride closures but fewer crowds. I'm on the fence either way but May/October have been our go-to times on previous vacations :)

I've been during May as well (2012) and loved how not crowded it was! I don't remember much being closed except for Big Thunder. I've never been during Halloween-time before and am definitely excited for all that it offers, not to mention the 60th Anniversary stuff. :bitelip:

Going during Dapper Days should be a blast for you. I love seeing all the costumes each year. So gorgeous and creative!

Awesome! I'm very much looking forward to it. I'm impatiently waiting for the 2015 shirt to be unveiled at the moment. :rolleyes1

So I emailed the Convention link on the Dapper Days website and they were absolutely lovely in their response. However I probably was confusing in my email as they said you couldn't upgrade the convention rates but you could upgrade to conceirge rooms:

I am not sure exactly what you are asking in regards to upgrading a room within the convention rate so I will answer as best as I can guess. There is no option to upgrade to a room with a view at the convention price, however, there are discounted rates on rooms with access to the Concierge Lounge at the hotel which would be as follows:
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa: $479.00 plus tax, per night
Disneyland Hotel: $404.00 plus tax, per night
Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel: $334.00 plus tax, per night

It's a little dissappointing that I can't upgrade to a view room based on the difference in std/view rates but with rates that good I'm not going to complain. :)

If you have been looking and unable to find dates ( I was only able to find space from the 24-01May or so ) then this might help as well:

We do not offer a waitlist, so once dates are sold out at the discounted rate, they are only available at the higher rate as listed on the website. It looks like these dates are not yet sold out, however, they didn’t book any rooms for the event so we just need to adjust our website to allow you to book the extended stay. Please check the site again this afternoon and you should be able to book either of your requested dates below.
