Upgrading Canadian Resident Tickets to AP

Has anyone tried this yet? I bought the Canadian resident tickets just to be safe but we are considering buying AP's yet again for multiple trips. Is it possible to upgrade these to AP's and pay the difference?

Not sure if it will make a difference in the answer but we specifically go to Disneyland not World

Yes, you pay the difference in what you paid and the price of the annual pass, so you completely lose the benefit of the discount on the Canadian ticket.

Yes, I did this in Disney World last trip in Dec because I have another trip in August. I did loose the discount. Some have been lucky and didn’t loose discount.

I’m fine losing the discount since AP’s were never discounted. When we go twice a year we find it worthwhile to just have the pass so it will depend on our future plans..we said one trip this year but then we came up with some more reasons to celebrate so who knows lol

The trick to not losing your discount is to use the ticket at least once before you upgrade. Once you've used the ticket, there's no way for the system to tell the difference between it being a discounted ticket and a regular ticket. You will get the value of the ticket as of the day you upgrade towards the AP. We have don't this numerous times.

This is no longer true -- the system is able to determine how much you paid even after you've used the tickets.

Donald is right... we upgraded at DL last summer and lost the discount. We did however take advantage of using the Magic Morning before upgrading! Something to consider if you don't need the AP discount right away
