Does anyone know if we can upgrade the APs we bought at regular price to PAPs at the DVC discount on or after Jan 2?

Yes, you will be able to upgrade an old AP to PAP with the DVC discount. Just go to Guest Services at any Theme Park and they'll credit unused time on the old pass, apply the DVC discount and give you the new PAP. If it's a recent AP purchase, it's likely you won't owe much additional at all- if any.

Any upgrade from AP to PAP is from the orginal purchase date. So if you started 10/30/04 the the PAP is also from 10/30/04. Member Services confirmed this in an e-mail answer to my inquiry on this same question. The difference it $2.80 after taxes to upgrade with the discount, from DVC-AP to DVC-PAP .

Value of an old pass is used when going to a longer PHP or MYW, or upgrading to AP or PAP, But from AP to PAP you pay the difference and renewal date stays the same.

At least that is how they explained it to me at GS at DTD.

::yes:: Oh yeah. We're definately doing that as soon as we get to the parks in January. We did buy the APs in November with the idea that we'd pretty much only use the parks, and none of the "plus" stuff, but now that we can upgrade for pretty much free, we might be scheduling Disney Quest or one of the water parks into the coming year's plans. If we get APs again next year, they'll be regular APs tho, and we'll buy them about three months after the old ones expire, so 25% additional savings rather than the 10% renewal discount. Plus, I'd expect that Disney would need us to renew the PAP rather than the step down.

Hmmmm... We go on vacation on 4/22 and our AP's are due for renewal on 4/25. Maybe we should upgrade them to PAP's on 4/22 and go to DQ within the first few days of our vacation. We normally get AP's and just pay for adminission to DQ one time seperately during the trip. But, if we can go for free (almost), we might as well. I beleive when renewing an AP or a PAP you can renew for either the PAP or AP you don't have to renew for exactly what you had before.

Just make sure they'll give you a new pass for a year. One thing I heard suggested your pass would still expire on 4/24. If so, the difference might be too great. You might consider just getting a new pass if the other options don't work out. Members need to report back how things are truly working once this actually gets started for real.

I agree Dean, I will wait and see how this works, but from what others are saying, they are giving you the original price of the AP towards the DVC pass so it is under $5 for the difference.

It depends in part on how you'll use it. If you only have to pay $5 and get three days left on a PAP, that may be worth it if you chose the correct choice for the rest of your time and depending on when your next trip will be. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

So with the increase in AP/PAP in January the cost to upgrade from AP to DVC PAP would now be approximately $12.55, still cheaper then a single night at PI or a visit to DQ.

p.s. there is a thread on the DVC board that tells of a Price increase on 01/02/05 for AP and PAP.
