We have never gone to the parks during peak season, but this year we have to. My son's school starts in a week.

So, we have just gotten here and have the Power Passes, which means we can only go to the Islands of Adventure side until this coming Friday.

Am I understanding that we can pay the difference between the Power Pass and the Preferred Pass ($95 per pass) and we are good to go for going to both parks for the week??? I understand it won't be prorated even though our passes expire in a few months.

Originally we had a 3 day pass and we turned it in to an AP and SHOULD have paid the difference then to do the Preferred as we would have only owed about $50, but we had no way of knowing this would happen.

THanks,

Dawn

Just got back and had to do this same thing the upgrade was 117 per pass I had five so total was 585 mine expire in sept The best way to do this is to enter islands of adventure and go to guest services there. Make sure they give you the new printed pass with your name and pref on it. They messed mine up and missed a step and after two days at the parks I had to go get in line again they did make up for it though and gave me vip express pass and we used them on gringotts lol

Ok, thanks. We have 4 of us who need them, so I guess I am looking at $468. DO NOT tell my husband how much it is!

Ok, update:

We went to IOA today and talked. We decided that since we CAN go to US on Friday and half a day Saturday, we will not upgrade.

We are also talking about trying to come back for a few days in October when my son has a few days off of school, so we will save the *close to* $500 for now and just deal with what we have.

If you can wait to upgrade to renewal time, it is only the difference in the renewal prices.

For example, the Power pass used to be $135 to renew.
The preferred pass was $160 to renew.

To change a power pass to a preferred pass, you just paid the $160 renewal price. In essence, just $25 more. I have done this for the last 2 years - gradually changing all of our power passes over to preferred passes.

I know renewal prices have increased, so the savings may not be as great :)

prior to the recent increase, the preferred annual pass was $159. but with tax it was $170.34

I don't think I am following. I see the preferred pass as $299. Where are you getting $160? What am I missing?

my renewal rate was prior to the increased pricing.
my original post stated above was, "prior to the recent increase"

when the other poster stated they got it for $160 (159), tax wasn't included in that figure.

Oh, I was thinking it was the Preferred Pass, sorry.

I WISH I had upgraded to Preferred from our 3 day passes......I messed up.....but I honestly had no idea we would ever need them. We have never come during this time of year before. We have always homeschooled. But our middle son is going to school this year and so our schedule is drastically changing.

mine is the preferred pass

if you renew within 30 days of its expiration, there is a discounted rate.
prior to the new increase this summer, preferred pass renewal was $159 + tax.

sorry to have confused you.
