Upgrading airmiles WDW passes

Has anyone ever upgraded a 7 day WDW pass that they got through airmiles????

I am considering a short trip(4days) to the world in January with just my kids. I have enough airmiles to get the base 7 day passes but I want to add hopping and no expire options. I need to calculate all expenses and want to know what the upgrades on the passes will cost. I am aware that you must pay the difference between what airmiles has paid for the passes and whatever full price is. Any further info would be a BIG help.

I don't know the answer to your question but I would love to know the answer. I didn't even know you could get the passes through airmiles. That is so cool. Will definitely look into that option for my trip.

We did this in March 2005. We redeemed airmiles to get two 7 day base passes and upgraded to get park hopping. We did the upgrade at the concierge desk in the lobby of the Polynesian Resort where we were staying. I don't know what they were comparing to get give us as a credit but I think it was equivalent to the regular purchase price for the base pass because the cost to upgrade them to park hoppers was not that much. We were at WDW for 8 nights, so we did not upgrade further to non-expiring.

We got some tickets through Aeroplan and upgraded at the gate (7 day to 10 day). We only paid an extra $21 I think for the 3 tickets. Now, I had problems figuring out ahead of time if we could do this. Aeroplan sent us tickets and no-one at WDW would confirm whether or not they would treat them as equal value as a gate ticket until they were able to see them in person. Apparently, it depends on the deal that each company works out with WDW, and some do not get a standard deal. If that is the case, your value of the ticket is not the same if you present to upgrade. WDW could not advise me of which companies make alternate deals, but one CM did say that sometimes companies will accept "comp" tickets and those are the ones which offer the greatest problem.

So, to make a long note short, be prepared to live with what you get, but most likely it will be fine to upgrade as you wish. You will just be charged the difference from a standard gate price of what you have in your hand to the added features.

I just looked at Ticketmania as they have a handy chart with all the options listed to get an idea of the price differences of base tickets and extra days or options and such. The price WDW charged me was what I figured out. HTH!

I did read that if you use one day of the passes Disney then treats them as equivalent to gate passes (not discounted). So from that I am expecting to pay the prices that WDW publishes for add-ons to the passes. Also, I read that the best place to do the upgrading is at guest relations in either DTD or at the parks. These locations seem to have less confusion with these sorts of things. Anyone have comments on that?

If you try it in the park, the one day's usage will already have been ticked off! Nothing to lose by using up a day first.

Ask for the cost of the upgrade (or doing anything else including makig long distance phone calls from a pay phone) before giving the go ahead to the CM to actually do it. If you don;t like the number of dollars, step out of line and think about it first. It helps to get an itemized price for each ticket instead of just one total for a bunch of adult and child tickets for which you don;'t know how much is which.
