Upgrade upon arrival

Hi everyone,

On our last trip to AKL, we were upgraded to pool view for free. (They offered - I didn't ask). I'm wondering if anyone has ever asked to pay for an upgrade at the front desk and if that is cheaper than booking the better room ahead of time. I thought as I was standing there that I heard them telling someone they could upgrade for only a few dollars more per night. Anyone have any experience with that?

I've upgraded to a suite on arrival for less than the rate of booking in advance.

Keep in mind that upgrades, even paid upgrades are not always available, so book what you'll be happy with, and be pleasantly surprised if you can upgrade

That is good advice, tinkerbeth. I originally booked standard view at AKL for February, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if I actually GOT standard view, I was probably going to be extremely disappointed. Realizing it was not wise to pin my hopes on something out of my control, I upgraded to pool view. No, it is not savannah, and it would be great to be upgraded to savgannah, but I am pretty certain that we will be completely happy with pool view. Now I am just hoping for a code to bring the price down!
