My boyfriend and myself are staying for 2 weeks at Animal Kingdom Lodge from the 1st July - Coming over from the UK is not a cheap holiday!!! but we have gone all out this year as unfortunately we were unable to have a holiday in 2004!!! So I was just wondering whether anyone could tell me whether it is worth upgrading to a Savannah room is worthwhile? The comments on long walks puts me off slightly 'cause even at the young age of 25 I tend to forget things in the room and have to go back!!!! :earboy2:

Also, we have been to Orlando in 2002 and 2003 and always come in September - so could someone tell me what kind of weather to expect?!

MANY people may not feel the same way i do but i don't think that it is worth it. We had a Savannah room on the end last time and not only was it quite a walk but we felt like we saw more animals at different viewing areas around the lodge. Also when we walked around outside.
We are getting a pool view this time. Not only is it cheaper but closer to things and I think we will like sitting out on our balcony more. When there were no animals out we just looked at some trees.
Just my opinion.

Looby Loo,
I agree with MrsJ Henry! I just posted on another AKL thread about this same topic! We did the Pool View at AKL in October and we loved the view. I too was worried about not having the Savannah View, but there are so many places to view the animals around the resort. Plus if I would have done the Savannah view I think I would have been dissappointed if I had not gotten the Arusha Savannah. We had room 4428 in the Zebra trail it was a great location we were about 6 rooms down from the elevators that went out to the pool at the Mara! In the morning it was fun to eat breakfast on the balcony and see ducks swimming in the pool and a lot of mornings we saw hot ballons outside. After staying there in October I'm just addicted I wish I could swing it to stay there on my upcoming trip, but that will have to wait till the next one.
As for the weather it will be hot probably a little warmer than it is in September!

Weather report for July. Hot and humid with an afternoon shower every day. Write it down.

But don't leave the parks when the 4:00 shower hits. After the short shower is over the crowds at the parks are really thin and sometimes you can ride a lot of the rides that had long lines before the storms.

I wouldn't pay for it unless you were to get a GREAT Deal. We have stayed there twice and both times were great deals. First time we were moved when POFQ was closed and a Sav room was $94 and last year we had the 7 nights for 5. I would be too worried that we wouldn't have a great view and it's a lot of money. The first year our view was so, so with not a lot of animlas. Last year we had an awesome view and it was almost to the end of the hallway, but it was by a little water area so the animals were there a lot. We are going to do poolview this summer.

Thanks for all the posts!! I think that I have decided to see what we get - the more I think about it - I am not planning on spending that much time in the room and with you being able to view the animals from other points in the hotel I will be okay with that! The balcony is a treat for us as it is. :cloud9:

As for the rainy parts of the day - they will be fine with us! We are from the UK so quite use to having to do things in the rain! :umbrella:

I have been told that sometimes, if the hotel has rooms free, they will upgrade you on arrival for a discounted price - May be if that happens then I will ask to see the room first so that I can make up my mind.

Anyone out there have good things to say about the savannah rooms?? :flower1:

Compared to England it will be VERY hot! I live in Kansas City where the temp gets to 90F easily in July and it is so much more heat than here! Bring sunscreen, you can burn very easily so don't forget to put it on!

Does anyone know if the "deluxe savannah view" rooms are in a certain place in the hotel or are they everywhere? Are they are "better" view then just a "savannah view?" There are 5 of us, so that is our only option of room views from my understanding.

Personally, I think paying extra for a Savanah View is worth the extra price. We were upgraded to a Savanah View on our first stay and we made sure to pay for the view we wanted on our second stay. Make sure to check www.mousesavers.com often for possible discounts on your room.

Heck, Savannah rooms are worth the extra. Take some binoculars if possible. We stayed and did NOT have long walk. In fact, we were five minutes from the lobby. :earboy2:

golfgal,
Hello fellow Minnesotan! The Deluxe views are on floors 5 and 6. They either have a Pool or Savannah view. They are not better than regular savannah views they are just larger rooms.
