Upgrade GAD to MYW, but hold MYW until 2011?

Can this be done? I know you have to use the ticket you get with the voucher the day you redeem it. I imagine that if you do upgrade the GAD to a 5 day ticket you have to use the first day of that ticket immediately. But I thought I'd just check to see if anyone knows if it might be possible to hold onto the MYW ticket until next Jan.

We're going to Vero in May, with just a couple of days at WDW then. We might not want to go into the parks at all on that trip, since we'll be going on a 10 day trip to WDW in Jan. Any chance that we could just hang onto the MYW ticket and start using it in Jan?

Unfortunately, it probably isn't going to work out for you.

In order to do this, you would have to upgrade your already-used GAD ticket to a longer MYW ticket with no expiration; this option is quite expensive, more than the $84 'discount' you would get on the ticket from using the GAD voucher. Financially, it is cheaper in the long run just to buy the ticket you will need in January, in January.

Since you are upgrading your GAD voucher ticket to the MYW, the official 'first day of use' of the upgraded ticket will be that day that you use the voucher and do the upgrade - and the ticket will expire 14 days after that day unless you have bought the no-expiration option. For example, if you upgraded your GAD ticket to a 5-day MYW base ticket, you will already have used the first day at the point of upgrade - using the voucher to enter the park. You will essentially be paying for four additional days, which as we know are going to expire in 14 days from the day you buy them.

PictureJumpr is correct...to make the ticket you receive valid, you MUST use it the day you get it. That means you've already used one day on it, and the expiration on upgrades/use starts running.

That is why you cannot upgrade (other than to an Annual Pass) the GAD ticket until it is used. Since the ticket upgraded to is a continuation ticket, it has been used that first day and the expiration clock starts running.
