You may have difficulty getting what you paid for the UT ticket in the transaction.
Disney does not know what YOU paid for the ticket.
They only know what UT paid for the ticket.
This is where "price bridging" (by using a ticket one time before upgrading) takes care of these inequities.
HOWEVER, you can't USE the UT ticket and then RENEW an AP with it.
(You can use the UT and buy a NEW AP.)

Robo, why? I've done that and I know others that have as well. This has come up on the DVC boards quite a bit and I have used UT tickets once then upgraded to renewal DVC APs at guest relations. With price bridging.

I would expect to be able to use the ticket and have it price bridges to an annual pass renewal, but the logistics get complicated. You'd need to use the ticket and renew your AP within the 30 days after it expires. You might be able to in the prior 60 days, but using a ticket would be kind of strange since you have an active AP, so I'm not sure what would happen then. So, I say you'd have to renew in person in the 30 day window in order to price bridge towards a renewal.
Wow, I didn't know a ticket can be upgraded to an AP renewal. So I'm trying to figure this out. I have a 10 day base ticket from UT, I have to enter the park once then go to guest relations and upgrade to an AP renewal.
Question, if the first day I use the ticket is 11-18-15 when will the renewal expire? Sorry I'm new to the AP.

I think you misunderstood. The value of a ticket can be applied to an AP renewal, but you have to already have a valid, or recently expired AP. A renewal extends the original AP expiration date.
