Traveling from ISP to MCO on January 24 and right now it's $114 each way which seems incredibly expensive compared to previous years. Do you think it will go down? Maybe I'm looking to far out?

Updated at the end..they went down hehe ;)

I don't think they will go down for January...could be wrong about that, but the ding fares that are coming up now are for February. $114 each way is not incredibly expensive from the northeast IMO, that's less than what it would cost in gas to drive.

I meant incredibly expensive compared to previous trips out of this particular airport. I've always gotten $99 or less each way without a ding.

Thanks

SWA has raised prices across the board. I used to be able to book $89 our of PVD without a ding also, now days the prices start at $107 & dings are few and far between.

I wouldn't call the difference between $99 and $114 "incredibly expensive". $114 from the northeast about a month ahead is a great price. Airline fares have gone up. I couldn't get much under $400 roundtrip for PIT-MCO for my dates in June on SW.

$114 is the lowest on the "wanna get away rate" column. It ranges to over $200 each way in that catergory, which I have NEVER seen.

I really have no idea why anyone is trying to be argumentative about what I think is expensive. I was merely asking if the prices would go down. I have many friends that have also balked at the prices of the fares out of our local airport. I have always booked my airfare a month or two in advance and never paid $200+ r/t pp. Dings from our area used to be $59 and $69 all the time in the "off season" with the standard fares being no more than $99 each way.

Now you know why "bags fly free"!

Yes, I used to fly MHT to MDW for $39 ding each way; those days are over. You have to put that out of your mind and look at whether $114 to get you 1000 miles in 2 hours is reasonable. Most anyone would say yes. And again to answer your question, I don't think there will be further dings for January dates.

I know how you feel. In the past we have had some incredible inexpensive flights from Providence. July just opened and our trip is close to $ 1,200.00 for 4 round trip. Last year (08) we ended up pay $ 560.00. When they get below $ 1,000.00 (I hope) I'll book our flight. I will check twice a day for any savings. Southwest makes it so easy. The only one that's a hassle is if you get a DING. Dings are a good thing. Book it if you got the money and hope they go down. Good luck.

I had been seeing Ding fares at $80 one way for January.....we're flying 2/26 & 3/2....and I hope to catch an $80 Ding fare for those dates

I'm flying SW on jan 20th CMH to MCo and my fare was booked at 75/pp ow and is currently sitting at 79 It has not moved from that price since before or after I booked. I had booked during a 1 day special that may have been excluzive to our airport i'm not sure.

There were good rates on DINGs to MCO for January for us - I got $59 BWI to MCO for going and $79 for the return trip, so the 4 of us are going for about $550. But I booked that on a DING in September, I think. I wouldn't expect rates to get lower now when it's a month or less away.

We're not being argumentative; we're merely pointing out that $114 each way is not "incredibly expensive" to fly over a thousand miles in less than three hours. Nor is a difference of $15 over what you're used to.

AIRFARES HAVE GONE UP to, ideally, allow the airlines to (someday) operate at a profit.

I think its pretty reasonable summer. I kept looking for about a month and something popped up like internet only fare, but not for all the fights. I think for dh and I it was about $400 total, $200 each, hmm, I am not going to be in your suitcase??:) Seriously, I hope you all have a great trip!!

Not in my opinion, no.

The airlines are fine with that---they have been reducing capacity in hopes of cutting out the bottom of the fare range.

Well, a sale was on for $103, but of course not good on Sunday or a Friday, the dates we are traveling. Soo I'll just suck it up and book at the $114. Too bad I can't put DD in the suitcase LOL. Thanks!! :goodvibes

So I just happened to be checking my flight prices online a few minutes ago and the fares went down a lot! I got $74 down and $103 coming back. Saved a total of $199 that I can use for a future trip ;) Not bad for travel that is less than 2 weeks out!

I tend to fly SW almost exclusively now and I find the best time to book is about 2-3 weeks after the window opens. The last couple of times I've booked the fare tends to have a little dip for a couple of days. For example my PVD-MCO flight for next week opened at $99 (I believe), dipped to $79 (where I booked) after a couple of weeks but only for a couple of days, and then jumped to $107 and has recently dropped back to $99. I really doubt it will go any lower this close to the date. With SW it pays to check every day.
