I have searched and there are a couple answers but I did not see any recent one.

1. If using cash for your account, do they call you to add more, cut you off including canceling excursions, even if you have the cash in your room?

2. If using debit card, do they still charge every $300 or so and hold an additional $300? Or how do they do it currently.

7 day Fantasy because I know days matter on amounts too.

Thanks

If you put a cash payment on your onboard account, when the account credit balance start to get low, they will send you a notice to come and put some more on. They have no way of knowing that you have cash in your room.

Near as I can tell, DCL does not place "holds" on your bank/credit account. When you get to the magic dollar amount (or number of days, I guess), they just charge your card for the amount needed to bring your shipboard account to zero.

We did cash and they told us if we went over $300 they would cut us off ( unless we paid on account at guest services). Not a big deal.

We also use a debit card for our on-board expenses and there have been no holds placed on our account. They treat it like a credit card.

As others have said, with a cash account they will cut you off, but they warn you first. They didn't cancel excursions for us, just let us know we wouldn't be able to charge anything until we paid off the excursions. Same with gratuities. They charged them on night 4 of our 7-night and sent us a note that we needed to give them more money :)

Easy enough. Now does anybody know if you can get cash back before you get off the ship if you give them too much or do they mail you a check eventually?

Thanks

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but the indirect answer is that it's almost never an issue. This is because they give all cash customers on-board credit in the same amount that credit card guests have before their cards are charged. For example, on a 7-day voyage, I think it's $500. So, you can board the ship, put no credit card, debit card, or cash deposit down, and charge up to $500 before they cut you off you or need to make a payment. Thus, there's never really any reason why you'd have a credit balance, except for some unusual situation of paying off your balance on the last day and then returning something to a store. You just keep your cash with you in your room and pay down your bill in cash at Guest Services after you've spent the money.
