Updated - Anyone stay at the Homewood Suites San Diego Airport - Liberty Station?

Good? Bad? Ugly? Would like to hear about this property from someone who has actually stayed there. This hotel looks like it might meet our family's needs.

Other suggestions are welcome as well. Starting to look at San Diego hotel choices for a possible trip in the spring. Would like something in the $140-$170 per night range (excluding taxes), inclusive of parking. General sightseeing is the goal...museums, Gaslamp district, some good eats, a beach more to have seen the water than for doing any activities. Thanks in advance for info and advice.

I would love to hear any reviews as well... Do the rooms have bay views? Considering this hotel or the Bay Club. Really looking for something we will feel comfortable in, including a comfortable price

We stayed there in Feb for 3 nights with my inlaws in a two bedroom suite.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Great location, great rooms, clean.
There is a Starbucks, Subway and pizza place all within walking distance.
Along the waterfront, great walking trails.
Trader Joe's and Vons in a shopping plaza just down the road, we stocked up on snacks, water, etc.
Free breakfast was great as well as the free evening meals Mon- Thurs nights.

Did not use the pool as it was rather cold while we were there.
No problems traveling to the USS Midway, Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego Zoo and Old Town.
One tip, stop at Subway before going to the San Diego Zoo, you will save a fortune on food.

Other than the fact that we never used the pool so I can't vouch for that, I agree with every word of this review. It's a wonderful place, and we would go back in a heart beat. Modern, well-kept, convenient shopping, convenient to downtown. And the walking trails were beautiful!

We were just talking about this trip yesterday. Have a great time. It is such a beautiful city.
Be sure to check out the Torrey Pines Nature Reserve and the Children's Pool (seals) in La Jolla if you have the time.

I am so glad to see this thread! Planning our trip, and looking at 5 days at the Homewood Suites Liberty Station, and 3 Days of "beach time"/non-site seeing at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa.

We'll have a rental car, but does anyone know if mass transit is available close to Liberty Station? My son is OBSESSED with trains and we try to find one train ride on every vacation

Perhaps, but the zoo has an excellent table service restaurant, Alberts... Reasonably priced for what you get and excellent food. I enjoy eating there whenever I can.

Just want to say thank you again to you guys who responded to my original questions about this hotel. We just got back from our spring break trip. We stayed at this hotel for four nights in a one bedroom king suite, and you guys were spot on with your reviews. We loved the hotel and would gladly stay there again if and when we return to San Diego. AAA rate saved us a few bucks. Breakfast and dinner were fine. Plenty of food choices in walking distance too. My boys loved the pool table and basketball court. For those who are interested, my boys said the pool was nice and warm, and they enjoyed swimming in it. DH said the pool was a little on the small side, but he just supervised the boys as he wasn't in the mood for swimming. Weather was beautiful in San Diego, rather wet for Disney on the way home, but we go there all the time so no biggie. Much happier to have the good weather for the San Diego portion of the trip since that was new to us.
