Theres a new Mydoom variant out there, and this one deletes files from your hard drive. The virus searches for files with the extensions .mdb, .doc, .xls, .sav, .jpg, .avi, and .bmp on the %System% folder on drives C to Z, and randomly deletes the files it finds. This means Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases and various graphics files could be deleted off your hard drive. It also performs a denial of service attack against Microsoft and the RIAA, and opens a back door into you computer to make it accessible to hackers.

Here is a link to symantic's page on the virus:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mydoom.f@mm.html.

The virus is in the wild and spreading rapidily, so it would be a good idea to update your virus definitions today.

Hit my office yesterday - to say it is really bad is a huge understatement. Six offices down - lost files need to be restored from back up and a full day of productivity flushed.

This version infected 20 pc's in my company on Monday afternoon. What a mess! All of our systems were slow and we didn't have access to all of our files most of the day. I felt really bad for the IT guys.

Why in heavens name can't these techno geeks get a real life?
