update to my story

Yesterday I posted how one cm would not verify I had a non-smoking room because I was not the ta that booked the room for me althought I felt it was important and explained to her she might like to bend the rules becuase my daughter could possilbly die if we were given a smoking room . NO exaggeration she has asthma and that is one of her really bad allergies.
OKay so she says sorry no way. I emailed the ta it says she is on holidays this week. So really ticked I called directly to pop they said they had to put me through to somewhere else. I was confused but okay. Then I reached a wonderful cm that said oh yes she would add non-smoking due to medical condition. Great thanks.
Today - I called back to make sure the ta put in my request for a certain building ... the cm today was wonderful put it in for me. I also asked her to double check on the non-smoking thing. She did it was not there ! arrr.. she added it and red flagged our reservation ... she also put in caps in two different placed NON_SMOKING DUE TO MEDICAL CONDITION. She said I could verify it when we check-in and would get a non-smoking room forsure.
Well now that is set I should be good for our trip . First trip next Sunday can hardly wait.

Diane,
When you are booked with a TA the CM is still supposed to verify the details of your reservation with you (resort, dates, requests) but cannot give you any pricing or other details. Unfortunately some CMs do not always do as they should on these (which makes for unnecessary worry for the person calling to verify the reservation.)

I'm glad to hear that you finally got someone who verified the information for you (and someone who guaranteed the non-smoking request.)

Doesn't sound like your TA is earning her money - sounds like you need to do alot of the planning yourself. I have read your previous post and certainly understand and agree with your concerns.

That's why I stay away from travel agents. I like to have control of my own vacation. However I would consider DU if I needed too.

I'm happy to hear that you were able to straighten it all out - now have a great time!

Just wanted to update you on a situation we faced a few years back. We had a non-smoking room guaranteed since my DD has severe allergies, too. We were booked at AS movies, but, when we got there (around 7pm), no non-smoking rooms were left. They gave us a choice: stay in a smoking room (not poss.), or move to AS Music at same rate (which we did). I suppose that goes to show that a guaranteed n/s room doesn't really mean they'll hold one back for you--only that you'll get one somewhere...

You know, if that happens, they really should upgrade you to a better hotel. A move from AS Movies to AS Music is supposed to be a parallel move, but since you originally CHOSE movies over music, than it obviously is a bit of a downgrade for you. That just isn't right.

OP, I'd consider bringing a doctor's note about your daughter's condition. If you have proof that smoke is dangerous to her (as opposed to many people who would just prefer a nice smelling room), you may be treated better in case you're assigned a smokey room.

BostonRob, I probably would have pushed for something in the way of compensation if we'd been staying more than one night. It really was just a first night stay, then on to AKL. So I just took the room. On a different day, it might have struck me differently...
