UPDATE - Tell me about going Solo

I'm doing my first solo trip next month. It's my first time to the West Coast, DL as well. I'm a WDW vet at this point, but always with the family. This past Oct we had a great trip, but my DD's are over Disney right now and want to go to Universal. So, when I had a short trip planned to Vegas to visit family, a friend suggested I tack on a few days and try DL. I am so excited! A little nervous never having traveled alone before. But, I think I've got the right personality for it. I eat alone and go to the movies alone...a lot! So, the dining thing and sleeping alone thing aren't making me apprehensive. It's more the possibility of something going wrong and having to deal with it alone. But, that's life and if something happens, well, I can't control it. I'm mostly looking forward to doing whatever I want when I want. That was a major issue on our last trip as a family. The girls just wanted to leave the parks and hang at the condo. DH was not very cooperative at times and I just realized that being alone would have been great at that point. So, it didn't take much convincing to plan these days. I've got 3 nights with 2 1/2 park days planned. Then flying to Vegas for 4 nights. Going to be AWESOME!!!!

I went solo for my 26th birthday. I got a couple comments about how sad it was to be celebrating my birthday by myself, I simply told them I got to do exactly what I wanted exactly when I wanted and no one could tell me different! That usually changed their minds. I also met up with another DISer who's birthday was very close to mine and was also in town solo and had a lovely character breakfast! We've since met up at WDW too!
I can't believe people commented about it being sad to be by yourself on your birthday. Hello, if someone is in Disneyland alone for their birthday, it means that is EXACTLY what they want to be doing for their birthday! I will be in the parks solo the day before my birthday because that is how I want to celebrate! Believe me, it is a true gift to go to the parks alone and not have to worry about cooking anyone breakfast, taking/picking kids up from school, working all day, rushing home to make dinner, homework...a day alone in Disneyland is HEAVEN! I would go on my actual birthday, but I have an important meeting that I can't miss that day.

I agree.
It's a different, but equally nice, in my opinion, experience visiting DLR when by yourself or with friends or family. Not better or worse. Just different.

At the time I was single and lived alone, my twin sister was going on a cruise in october (and to DL) and couldn't really afford to go twice in three months. The CMs were all great it was mostly guests making the comments and since most of them were moms I ran through a list very similar to yours and asked them how they'd like a day to be totally on their own only doing things on their own whim... That turned them around fast, lol!

I began this thread on January 9th. And I'm HAPPY to REPORT, I have booked my first SOLO TRIP! It's only overnight but it's a start.

On February 9th I'll be taking the first JetBlue flight out of PDX for LGB. If anyone else will be on that flight and would like to share a taxi to DLR area, send me a message.

I'll check into PPH and head to the parks. I'm so excited to be making this trip.

Thank you all for your input on my thread.
