Update on theft at SSR from 7-24-04

Ya know - there aren't too many perfect people out there who haven't done something - er - stupid - in the moment. For some of us, it's something said in anger, a blunder at work when we are pressed for time, whatever we all have them. Let's be kind about human mistakes - no one really needs to have it pointed out to them - something that they already know was not the best decision. Be kind.

That said - I find it very disturbing that something that could be hidden in the groceries is found. So - someone is going thru grocery bags in hopes of finding a valuable?

Makes me nervous about my little un-lockable carry on that I sometimes have to store with Bell Services - the one that I put my camera equipment in for the flight down. I have only put it in BS once - when I had taken the bus from the airport and had no car to keep it in. Don't think I'll do it again.

Glad that Disney made it right with you. They did the right thing.

Personally I am shocked that Disney sent you your money back. Putting money in luggage like that was not a good move and I am really surprised that anyone reimbused you.

As a general rule if money is stolen you don't get it back. Look at your homeowners policy. The "cash" limit is just a few hundered dollars in most cases.

I am always amazed when I hear people saying.... "I am taking ALL my spending money in Cash" That is theft just waiting to happen.

ITA...the best solution is to take away the temptation. Especially something as untraceable as cash!

Anyway, glad to have you back on the board Wisbucky -- Have a great time during your next visit... :D

The OP made a mistake, it happens to all of us. And it was a mistake on their part, one in which Disney had no wrong doing. I'm glad Disney decided to reimburse them but most would say there was no reasonable expectation for them to do so. And it certainly isn't an admission of guilt. It happened and we all learned some things, though I think most of us, including the OP knew better to start with.

I'm sure Disney will watch certain employees more closely and will likely release certain ones on if there are any repeat concerns.

My guess is they were moving the bags and something caught their eye. I doubt anyone would be searching through the groceries looking for money, but they might be now.

Wisbucky,

I am glad to hear that your situation turned out for the best. :D

I know that if I were in your situation I would have felt the same way. I believe these Disney employees have duty to make sure that your items are stored securly. If they didn't they wouldn't give out claim tickets and you could simply say hey my bags our those black bags back there.

Hi there, Wisbucky! I hope your upcoming trip is wonderful and I am glad you came back to share your update with us :goodvibes

I am happy your issue was resolved and Disney reimbursed you. I am a little surprised to see you posting about it though, I would have thought that Disney would have had you sign an agreement that includes not talking about the incident publicly. If you didn't have to sign any kind of confidentiality agreement along with the receipt of the payment then I am surprised.
Before anyone flames me, I know for a fact that Disney makes you sign these things in regards to "issues", but maybe this isn't one of those times.

Thanks for updating the "rest of the story". I was wondering what happened to this situation.

BTW, you will be down there the same time as we will be! We leave in in about 36 hours (contrary to what my siggy says).

This whole thread is weird to me. I wasn't sure what to believe when the story first broke.

Not knowing wisbucky, the reason I believe the OP is that I can understand how even a rational adult would want to believe their money is safe in a grocery bag at WDW. The "magic," right?

And WDW must also believe. I'm sure they get hundreds of false claims from people trying to pay for their vacations with Disney's money. There must have been undeniable details in wisbucky's story. Maybe even other claims with the same story/same details.

Lesson learned. You can be ripped off at WDW and even at church.

As for skeptical police officers -- I've never met one worth his/her salt that wasn't skeptical. IMHO, we shouldn't be offended if a policeman doesn't believe us initially. That's their job. It's not the true story they don't trust. It's the hundred lies they heard just beforehand.

You're right...and thank you....but we always treat each report as true until it is proved to be false. Even when we know that the "victim" is not being truthful a lot of resources are used before thier story is discounted. So...at least for me, I wanted to have faith in this claim from the beginning. The flame on Disney security is what I'm having the biggest problem understanding.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. I hope you have a wonderful upcoming trip!

Glad to see things worked out for you and glad to see you bak on the DIS.

Disney-Kim
We did not sign any receipt or paperwork. We were sent a check in the mail.

Just curious, when Disney does this what account does this money come from.

Do our dues help cover it?

I found the lastest info on the Budget very interesting. In the past I had never really looked at how the breakdown of the money goes. I noticed we pay for the replacement of towels and linens, so I guess we pay for those lovely Towel Animals that get lifted, I mean taken home as gifts. :)
