Update on my mom - still no diagnosis

I just wanted to make a quick post about my mom. She had the Cat Scan and all it showed was a cyst on her ovaries, but it has nothing to do with the larger problem. She was put on an antibiotic which she has finished and she still is at square one with the diarrhea. The doctor gave her some powders that she is to mix with water that will hopefully stop her running, but it appears they are no closer to a diagnosis at this point.

My sisters and I are frustrated and think she should go to another gastro doctor but she is refusing, so at this point our hands are tied. She has had constant diarrhea for 2 months, has lost 20# and this doctor hasn't even given her any vitamins or nutrients for her body, which we all feel she needs since she isn't really eating. But if she won't go, we can't make her at this point. I just hope these powders work.

Sounds like what we went through with my Mom when Patrick was a baby. Turns out she had ulcerative colitis and the minute she started on the Prednisone, she was a new woman.

I would insist that she see another specialist, she may just be frightened, but this is too important to let go.

I will continue to pray for your Mom and for your families sanity as you try to get her to see another doctor. Hopefully she will agree as no one is perfect and sometimes some doctors miss things that others may pick up on. Good luck with trying to get her to agree to a second opinion. Keep us posted.

Debbi, the ruling out cancer was good news, however the now knowing what it is that's still troubling her , is just as bad.
My mother is doing the same now, we know she has alzheimers but we don't really know how advanced it is, and my sister has to basically lie to her to bring her for the cat-scan, she did that the other day and my mom wasn't too happy, needless to say my sister is very upset , but she has to do it.
I hope things work out with your mom soon , and the doctor's can find an answer. Keeping her and you in my prayers.

It is very frustrating when someone we love is ill and the doctors can't even tell us what is wrong.

I remember your original post about your mom. I'm really glad it's not cancer. Are the doctors doing anything about the cyst? I wouldn't rule that out as part of the problem. I had some of the same symptoms as your mom (though not nearly as severe) over the course of several months and finally wound up in the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. It turned out I had a very large ovarian cyst that was irritating many other organs and causing all my seemingly unrelated problems. I hope you get to the bottom of this soon

Debbi, I am sorry that she doesn't have a diagnosis yet. I hope they can find out what is wrong soon. I am sure that is very frustrating for you all. Hang in there and continued prayers for your mom.

CEDmom, as far as I know at this point they aren't concerned with the cyst, we have a family history of ovarian cysts. But I will keep what you said in mind and pass the information along to mom.
