Okay I posted about this over the weekend....if I changed my ressie and cancelled my last day in Aug. and my UY was Oct. would I be able to bank those cancelled 34 points. Well I called MS yesterday....that first guy totally confused me by the end of the conversation. We have 300 points split into 3 contracts of 100 plus the developer points of 300. I banked in March. Well he pretty much said those 34 cancelled points would have to be used up by Oct. 1st. So I left it the way it was. Then I decided to call back about an hour later because I still felt confused. SO I got a new guy..and it is those developer points and how they are entered into your acct. that are the confusing part. He said some show up in the computer as developer points and some do not...just part of your total. Mine say Feb. 1st manually transferred in. All said and done...he asked me when I purchased our contracts....told him Jan. this year...at which he replied "all new contracts but not add ons DO NOT HAVE A BANKING WINDOW OF ANY TYPE THE FIRST YEAR. So he said I could have waited til the end of Sept to bank since my UY is Oct. SO I cancelled my last night, banked those 34 points and ALL IS DONE. Thanks everyone for your insight.

Thanks me too..but I wonder if all newbies know that there is technically not a banking window to worry about the first year you are a member...or before your next UY starts??? I don't remember out guide ever telling us that.

For add ons, MS has allowed banking beyond the normal times. This is a more recent development, but it does go along with what you're saying.

I'm not sure that's totally accurate. While there is a LOT of flexibility initially on a new purchase OR add on, it's not cart blanche for the year.

I'm glad things worked out for you, but the true status of developer points is not the fundamental lesson here. The fundamental lesson is this:

If you get an answer you don't like, it is possible that the CM is (pick one or more): wrong, misinformed, new, poorly trained, burned out, having a bad day, or correct. CALL BACK.

When you call back, the CM you speak to may be wrong, misinformed, new, poorly trained, burned out, having a bad day, or correct. And they may well give you the answer you wanted in the first place -- because the first answer you got was wrong, their answer is wrong, or it's simply your lucky day! Whatever the reason, you get what you want.

Therefore...if you get an answer that is not what you wanted to hear, CALL BACK!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I totally agree with this. Even though I did get to bank those 34 cancelled points....the developer points thing still confuses me and I have come to the conclusion that it is a case by case basis. My guide told us TWICE that I could bank all 600 if I wanted......but others here were told differently or just thought differently. Not to say they were wrong or he was wrong. The MS guy (the 2nd one) said that they are entered into the computer system a couple of different ways...sometimes they come up as developer points on their screens and sometimes they don't know what is developer and what is your regular allotment when they pull up your acct. SO like you said.....CALL AND CALL AGAIN AND ASK QUESTIONS. That is what I did. Thanks.

That is just what the 2nd MS guy said to me. As soon as he realized we had just purchased he said that changes everything because we don't have to bank by our banking windows...just by the end of our UY. So again....I wonder if it is a universal thing or just case by case. :confused3 :confused3

It worked for me so I have no complaints.
