Update - 2nd location of Gideon's Bakehouse may be coming to DS

I am curious as to what is being planned... an expansion... or a new venture. Considering how high the demand is in Disney Springs I can see some sort of expansion being planned.

Gideons has been a great study of a tiny niche business taking off. Their East End location was/is a great starter location to build a brand and they are a perfect fit for Disney Springs.

We love going there, my gothy kids love the atmosphere and the art. Nevermind of course the cookies and cakes.

They don't need another location in Disney Springs. They should work on opening locations inside the parks.

I think Gideon’s works because of the instagram effect and the hype of the long line. One of the bars I used to work at artificially created a line that would wrap around the corner and people would flock over and stand in it to see what was so good. As a consumer, if Gideon’s did mobile ordering I would get a cookie and a cold brew every time I was at DS, but I don’t like them nearly enough to wait in even a 5 minute line for them. I wonder what a second location or mobile ordering would do to that psychological effect of seeing a line wrapped around the corner though. What is their main location like?

I wonder if it will be for merchandise? The location mentioned was the old "Art of Shaving" location. If they do open another storefront, I think they will sell something other than cookies. My opinion only!

That actually makes sense to me. It seems like they have been moving more into the merch space. I have no doubt they have fans who would buy some stuff with all their cure, macabre little mascots.

Perhaps I imagined this, but I feel like I read recently that there was speculation of them adding a coffee shop. I think that the environment of Gideon's is cute, but I'm not a huge fan of their cookies. I don't like chocolate, and every time I go and stand in the long line for my family, they're out of the 1 non-chocolate cookie. Although their red-velvet cake slice is tasty.

Or open one on the Boardwalk. They'd have their choice of empty spaces right now.

Except it’s manufactured success. Disney hand picks some small businesses and provides restricted and opportunities for them. See Splitsville’s interview with the LA Times in which the owner said Disney made the Springs and later Downtown Disneyland locations happen (Disney approached owner and provided the rescues). No way Gideon’s would’ve had the resources to open at DS to begin with.

No doubt social media and the Disney community have made Gideon’s larger than life. Quite frankly while the cookies are good, they’re nothing exceptional. If you want the latter, try Last Crumb. All mail order these days and it isn’t cheap but unlike Gideon’s it’s worth the price IMO.

No not really manufactured at all.. Before it ever appeared in Disney Springs, Gideons had (and still has) a very successful East End Marketplace location, a business that started in 2016. It was there that the viral cookie lines started... before they ever opened up in Disney Springs in 2021... so a full five years of being a successful business later.

Gideons does not have a location in Disneyland.

There’s almost no chance a small business would have the capital and liquidity to open a DS locations. Hence my comparison to Splitsville, which has openly acknowledged that without support from Disney it would never had opened in DS and later DTDL.

Disney Springs and Downtown Disneyland have both featured a handful of small businesses that were handpicked by Disney. Some have enjoyed more success than others, and some didn’t make it.

you can dislike on Gideons all you want.

It not matter to me if Disney encouraged/recruited the second location in any way shape of form, my comment still stands about Gideons being a small business that has found its success.

Disney did not create the business of Gideons' Bakehouse. They existed as a business and were a success before the Disney Springs, if they were not successful as a breakout, they certainly would not have been encouraged to open a location on Disney property.

I am happy to see a small business make it big with a cool idea and I look forward to their second location.
