Let's just say MIL is one stressful person to be around. Mentally exhausting. Manipulating. Always tries to find an angle where she can benefit from any situation. We are leaving late this afternoon for the big turkey day. I think I am dreading it so much, I have made myself sick. Headache, stomach issues, way too much time in the bathroom....

Luckily for me, dh's parents are divorced, so we will be staying at FIL's house, and then going to MIL's to eat on Thursday and most likely, spend time on Friday. Even so, I feel terrible. Dh saw how sick I was this am and asked if we had to cancel, but I said no. Our kids don't get to see their grandparents very often and these are the only ones they have left, as my parents died before they were born.

Please send any pixie dust you can spare my way that I make the 6 hour trip tonight. Thank goodness for the vcr player in the van.

OK - deep breaths! Just remember, on Saturday it will all be behind you!
You can do it! :grouphug:

I understand you completely, ever since DD was born 1.17.05, my MIL has been a you know what. MIL is very very MANIPULATING and she will stop at nothing to try to get what she wants, same goes for my SIL. My 2nd DD was just born this past August and already MIL is mad because I won't let her take my DD to Iowa with her for Thanksgiving and she won't come back for a week. MIL tells DH that he is the father that he has to put his foot down and make me let her (MIL) do what she want's wit the girl's. SIL is not any better, she has 1 son who is 8, and she thinks she knows everything, she tries to tell me what tto do and how to raise my girl's and when I tell her to back off she gets mad. Don't worry your noy alone

I totally understand what you're going through. If anyone mentions my mil's name, my palms start sweating, my heart starts racing and, my stomach starts turning. I totally understand how you feel. This is going to sound horrible, but, I'm glad my mil ticked off my dh...now, I don't have to see her any more*sigh of relief*.

While I did have to live with her behavior at get-togethers, I just tried to let what ever she said or did, roll off my back. I also knew I had to bring Imodium-AD with me...:sick:I know that's so hard to do. In the mean time, here's a link for a good laugh or to get it off your chest: motherinlawstories.com

Holy doo doo Batman! There is no way, I'd let anyone take one of my babies out of state and they're not even babies anymore! Is she nuts??? Your baby is still a BABY!

Holy Doo Doo is right. NO WAY would I let one of my babies go with someone else for so long...

I hope your trip goes okay. Hopefully it can only be better than expected. I have a MIL like that too. The women also literally makes me sick to my stomach. I am thankful we don't spend holiday's with her. Thankfully she blows off my dh for her boyfriend's family everytime- so we are always free to spend them w/ my family. I feel for you. :grouphug:

We must be in the same family.

:grouphug: to you.

One thing I do is go extremely passive. I take a book and bury my nose in it and become totally withdrawn. It seems to work.
