My mom, sister and myself will be going to Disney the first week of August this year.

First question. We are staying at SSR. My mom has been having issues with her foot, and can't walk very far. If we call the resort and request a close building to the main hall, will they honor it? Do we need to provide a doctors note? I really don't want her to be walking more then she has to at the resort, and be able to still do the parks some.

Also, when we come to parks. Is there any GAC that would allow myself to wait in a separate area away from the main lines at some attractions? I'm not looking to cut the lines, but I have issues with heat (suffered a heat stroke at work, etc) and being in tight spaces with people. The last time we went, waiting in line to TSM, and Space Mountain, I wanted OUT of there so fast. I started to panic because it was so tight, no windows, and I don't want to have that happen again. So is there any way way Disney can help? I do fine in lines that have some space, windows, and air.

For your Mom, I would rent a wheelchair or ECV for her. SSR is a very big resort and even though you might get a building close to things it is still a bit of a hike. If you rent a wheelchair for her she can also take it to the parks and use it as needed.

Yes you can ask for a GAC for the problems you mentioned. For either you or your Mom you do not need a doctors note. Disney can not ask you for one. All you would need to do is explain that due to meds and panic attacks you need to wait out of the sun. There shouldn't be a problem.

To help you there is a book out there called "Open Mouse Passporters guide to disabilities and Cruise line". It will explain about all the things out there for you to make your trip easier.

Thank you!
I just didn't know if the GAC were only for children, and I didn't want to get a weird look asking for one. I know August is one of the hottest months down in Florida, so any chance of not having to wait in the heat will help a ton. I don't want to end up in the E.R again for heat. :sad2:

I would agree that SSR is a very big resort and you would be best renting a wheelchair or ECV for her. You can find information in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. It is near the top of this board, or you can get there with a link in my signature.

We have stayed at SSR a number of times and since each building is rather large, you could end up walking a long way even in a 'close' building if you are on the side of the building farthest from where you want to get to. The grounds are easy to get around in a wheelchair or ECV.

If you look in post #6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you will find a whole section about Guest Assistance Cards. Just be prepared to explain your needs to the CM at Guest Relations.

Thank you as well. I'm going through all the information in that thread right now!
We are already trying to plan on hitting the parks during the cooler hours of the day, along with lots of rest, and water. :goodvibes
But this will help ease the worry as well. :lovestruc
