Hi All!

Am going to Newport Bay in August and would love to see any up to date photos and info!

Thanks!

Mamaboogie - do/did you post on Digital Spy? There was a poster there who had the same fabulous user name? :flower1:

Sorry folks for going :offtopic:

Posting from the admirals floor right now.....still fully scaffolded, no shop, but no real interruptions to anything else. Ate in Cape cod last night and had no issues

IMG_2498.JPG Just got back from there myself but I'm afraid I didn't take any pictures of our room. We too were Admiral's Floor and had our windows covered in an opaque white film so we couldn't see out due to scaffolding which was a bit sad (especially as through a tiny chink that had peeled back we could see that we had a lovely lake view and balcony!) and claustrophobic at first but we soon got used to it and really spent so little time in there.

The room itself was great with the usual very comfortable beds and pillows, nice white linen, nautical themed décor including "cabin trunk" furniture and plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure in the bathroom. I really don't see what we got for the additional money by going Admiral's Floor though. Having stayed in Golden Forest before I expected something at least as good now but all we got was a separate check-in, bell-boy service if needed (we didn't) and - on arrival day only - three paper cups, 5 tea-bags, 3 coffee sachets and 2 milk pots! Along with a kettle of course. I had hoped for the china cups, Nespresso machine and daily top-ups plus the room fridge. No separate breakfast lounge and no hot items. Perhaps I didn't do my homework and booked too hastily, but for me, a couple of paper cups was a very poor extra!

However the cast members throughout the hotel made up for this by being very friendly and helpful and it is nice to be the only hotel at the relevant bag check point so there were never any queues getting through to the Village. Shopping can still be sent to the hotel, it just means picking up from reception.

Yes I do! Did! (Haven't been posting on there for a while but do have a look at what's going on occasionally!) Mainly used to post in the Strictly forum! :flower1:

Oh is the Newport Bay bag check point in a different place to the others? I stayed in Hotel New York a couple of years ago and went through the one just before Cafe Mickey. We have booked a standard room - this means no hot drinks doesn't it? Have I heard somewhere you can ask for a kettle though?

Is the Yacht Club restaurant closed at the moment? I want somewhere convenient to eat on the first night.

Hi, yes for the nearest bag check from the hotel, walk round the left-hand side of the lake (opposite side to the Sequoia Lodge) and follow the path round. From the bag check you can turn right over the bridge and past Earl of Sandwich or continue past the elephants in the water towards MacDonalds. Either way you are straight into the Village but no other hotels really use this route so it is quieter.

You can request a kettle and it certainly isn't worth paying extra for a couple of throw-away paper cups and sachets! Bring mugs and coffee/tea if you can or buy cheaply, including sterilised milk, in the Relay shop in the station.

Both restaurants were open for breakfast last/this week and at least one in the evenings if not both. Although we didn't eat there the smell of seafood was very evident as we entered the hotel in the evenings!

Have a great time :goodvibes

:wave2: I remember you from the Strictly and I'd do Anything forums. Like you I have't posted there in years. Nice to see you here.

Didn't actually look but the check in info sheet had it listed so I'd assume it's open...unlike the shop

Is it possible to request a room with one bed in it rather than two? As it's only me and my fella it feels weird having a 'spare' bed!
