Honestly, I've asked so many questions on here that I really have started trying to use the search feature to get my answers. But much of the info on old threads is out of date, with changes in banking and II rules.

If I have a large-point ressie (yes - a "dis" word) late in my use year, and I have to cancel at 3 months and 29 days before the end of a UY because of illness or a family emergency, what are my options (other than HOPING I can book something last-minute at a DVC resort)? Any change in that scenario at 2months or less from the end of the UY?

Someone in an older thread was talking about making a deposit in II for a future trip. Is that still an option? (Sounded as if there were severe restrictions, even then.) Basically, how do folks who hit these kinds of issues manage to salvage the value of points that are on the verge of disappearing into The Black Hole (that was a Disney movie, too, wasn't it?)

I'll try to make this my only query of the day...:surfweb:

An important factor is what Disney calls the "Rule of Four" which is:

You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection, (excluding Disneyland Resort Hotels in California), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year. (copied from DVC web site).

With II, the rules are a little different. Vacation Time must be deposited with DVC Member Services at least 60 days, but no more than 11
months (7 months if the DVC Member is depositing Vacation Time from an Originating Resort other than his or her Home Resort), before the commencement date of the deposited week. Flex Deposits (deposits of Vacation Time received by DVC Member Services from 59 days up until 14 days before the commencement date of the Vacation Time being deposited) also are accepted, but any exchange request using the Flex Deposit must be made through the Flexchange exchange service. (copied from II Disclosure Guide). I've actually done this when I purchased a resale that had a lot of banked points.

So yes you would have some flexibility using II and their Flex Deposits even two months or less in advance. Otherwise you would essentially have until the end of your use year to use the points at either a DVC or Disneyland California.
