Unwanted offer to buy our VWL

We got an official-looking letter today from a real estate broker half way across the country offering to buy our VWL points for "IMMEDIATE CASH"! My response is an immediate "NO"! Anyone else receiving these letters?

I think I got something like this a few years ago. But I don't really remember for sure, as it just went straight to the TRASH.

I get offers frequently from one broker offering specifically to buy my Boardwalk Villas points (but none of the others- maybe because I bought those resale, while the rest were directly from Disney). Anyway, that mail goes right into the shredder! :sunny:

I get, quite literally, one per month. They seem to come from the same 3-4 real estate brokers.

There is an outfit in Texas that keeps sending us "offers to buy".

I think these companies have gone to the courthouse and obtained the property records. Century 21 mails me constantly. Somehow they changed my address, but DVC can't!!! (I swear getting those folks to change an address requires an act of congress!)

We get them all of the time.

They go straight to the trash.

We got our first one this past week and haven't even owned our Wilderness Lodge 6 months so striaght to the trash it went it's not even up for negotiation!

I also get at least one a month - "Cash today for your BCV"....my husband always leaves them on the counter for me or gives them to me with a "so.....?" kind of look and then laughs after he gets the predictable look of horror on my face!

Sounds like the same outfit - the one we got was from Texas too. I wonder if I could use this to talk DH into more points..."Look, Honey, these points are sooooo valuable, people are calling from around the country to buy them - maybe we should check the resale board again!" :smooth:

Yep, we get them too. Probably around one or two a month. They started arriving right after we closed last August!
I pitch them all right into the recycling bin.
I've only had my points for a year and have no intention of ever selling them :teeth:

So, anyone actually ask what they are offering per point? I imagine they're bottom feeders, and offer just a smidge above that nebulous ROFRvalue.

Even if they get ROFR, they will be listed as the agent/broker on the agreement and get their commission anyways! Some resellers buy contracts, strip the points and then resell at any price to get rid of it without paying MF and to get their commission.

I think most of the unsolicited offers actually want YOU (the owner) to pay them to list your timeshare with them. Don't think they are targeting DVC. Doubt they even have any idea that there is a ROFR involved - they're just looking for timeshares that people don't want/use anymore and trolling for listing fees. Anyway, IMHO, those kind of offers deserve to go into the trash!

Best wishes-

I hate getting stuff like that (even though it does go straight to trash), so I faxed them a letter saying that I had no intention of selling and even if I did, I would never consider listing with them because of their unsolicited offers, and to please take us off their list. Haven't gotten any since. :cool1:

The first time I got one of these I was a little angry that either Disney or the Timeshare Store was selling my info but now that I know anyone can find the information I feel better. Oh yes, I throw them in the trash too.

Not only do the companies that solicite us want money up-front, they also have an exclusive listing clause in their paperwork.

In other words, if you sign up with them, you can't find your own buyer without having to pay them their full commission. Seller beware! I suggest listing only with a broker that offers an open listing. That way you can sign up with more than one company if you want to.
