I'm looking for some online places to shop that don't offer the usual "hot" items or things you can pick up at the usual department stores - for my 12 yr. old DGD..

To give you an idea what I mean, one thing I ordered for her is a book where she has to locate various items.. It's meant for adults, so it's not like the "Finding Waldo" books..

She's very smart - has a large variety of interests - has a great imagination - is very curious about things - loves to cook and bake - likes to "figure things out" - loves nature, wildlife, sea life, etc. - enjoys experiments, etc..

I just don't want to get her the run-of-the-mill type things that can be picked up "anywhere".. The more unusual, the better..:thumbsup2

Any ideas?

Thanks! :goodvibes

try museum stores, like moma.org and metmuseum.org for interesting school/art supplies.

also uncommongoods.com and fredflare.com have unique stuff but it may not be educational. fredflare always runs promos so sign up for email alerts before buying.

try Prufrockpress.com Great, fun items. You do have to look through all the educational items, but there are some really fun finds here.

Thanks all! These are really going to be a big help..:goodvibes

She'll be very happy to get "unusual" gifts - as opposed to what everyone and their brother (sister) is getting..:thumbsup2

Not a online store, but what about a gift certificate for a sewing class or knitting or pottery, etc. Something local that she can learn to do?
