Unsure of where this fits.. But ECV's and Disney Land?

Ok first I want to say thanks to all the people here on DIS for being so helpful. Then I want to apologize for not knowing where the proper place to post this is.


I have never been to Disneyland before (WDW many times) and I have tried to figure out how to go about renting scooters for our trip to Disneyland. Does anyone know of any companies in California that have rentals?

Does Disneyland rent them? Also do they give out GAC cards?


We are so used to how things are done in WDW that its intimidating to try and plan for a place we haven't been before.

I wouldn't be so worried but my mom had spinal surgery and a knee replacement and has to have one. And when we go I will be most likely only a few weeks post op from knee surgery as well. We would reschedule but we are going on the Repo Cruise on DCL and the dates aren't moveable.

Hi!

I am just back from a trip to Disneyland and rented an ECV from an offsite source. I used Deckert Surgical as recommended in the linked thread above and was very very pleased with their service. As for in park rentals, a friend who works in Disneyland informed me that they had just bought a whole new fleet of ECVs for the park. He thought they were being released next week but from what we saw over the weekend they were already in use. They looked to be the Pride Maxima which is what I rented from Deckert's. I can report that I am close to the weight max on that scooter and I used it from 7am to 1am the first day and it had barely burned any of its charge. I was in heaven!

Another tip! Check in at the ECV/Wheelchair rental area to grab a pamphlet they have that specifies exactly how to get on each ride if you are using a mobilty aid. It is a one page piece that quite succintly details all you need to know. This was such a lifesaver!! Helped me realized that some of the rides I thought I would need to leave the ECV outside of were much more accessible than I thought.

I would strongly recommend renting an ECV or wheelchair from an outside source.

If you are staying on property and can keep take the Disney ECV or wheelchair to the parks and Downtown Disney then renting from Disney would not be so bad. I would prefer local rental companies though as it is less hassle.

GACs are given at City Hall witch is on the left and up the stairs, ramp is on the side. DCA has on the left a guest services area and the rentals are on the right. As with WDW if you leave one park you can save your receipt and get another wheelchair, ECV or stroller at that park later or another park later.

I would recommend you rent a wheelchair that has a leg rest that elevates. As with WDW wheelchairs are easier to use in line and restaurants and allow the person to raise their leg on the leg rest. It is also easier to get in and out of for many people. As with WDW you have to read the guidebooks and the GAC is the same as WDW. A lot more rides are old style where you have to use an exit or side entrance to enter. All train stations have ramps except Main Street which requires climbing stairs. DCA is more like WDW as far as disabled access and has wider traffic paths than DL.

If you read the info for diabled guests on the internet and stick to WDW disabled service type of planning then she should not have a problem. I say this because she will not be going on the roller coasters for example. The only real difference is that DL is narrower pathways and has more stuff where you have to use exits and side entrances.
