Hello- I have a friend that has the 2010 edition and is willing to let me use it, but I'm wondering if it's already outdated and if I should just get the 2011 version? Does anyone know if these 2 editions vary much?
Thanks!

They actually tell you at the beginning of the book that by the time it is printed it is somewhat out-dated! The vast majority of the info is the same each edition. There are of course things that change, most notably in the 2010 edition it still talks about Toontown. What I would do is check the library to see if they have the 2011 edition. If not, the 2010 edition will tell you most of what you want to know. Other good resources are Passporter, The Idiot's Guide to Walt Disney World and The Complete Walt Disney World. Good luck!

Out of all the guidebooks I have I like the unofficial one the best. I like the above poster, may have some outdated things but overall it's pretty accurate I would go to wdwinfo.com under the rehab section to see if anything will be closed during your trip. Also, the unofficial guide has an app if you have a smartphone and you can get a discount for the app if you have the guidebook:banana:

UOG is great i would definitley get the most recent version. The 2012 should be coming out soon, but buying the 2011 now will get you a discount on their Lines app and access to web site which will help with planning your park days.

OP the 2011 edition is fine, more importantly you should check out and join their companion website, www.touringplans.com. It's updated continuously and we use their Best Days/Crowd calendar to plan all of our park days.

I love the Unofficial Guide and would also recommend just buying the 2011 version, it will be more than enough.

Ditto the others, I haven't seen the newer (or older) editions, but it seems like most of the information and tips stays the same.

We've used the UOG and touringplans.com for previous trips, and it's a huge help, especially if you have limited time. There's all kinds of info, hints, etc in there.

If you buy the guide, you get a discount when you subscribe to the website. (Abt $10 for 1 year without the guide.) TouringPlans is also on Facebook - like them and they do post some info there.

You can buy the Unofficial Guide for your Kindle, too. (But you'll have to contact them if you have the kindle version to get the discount, since you have to go to a specific page and line in the book.)

:goodvibes

In years past, I have purchased the 2009 and 2010 version. Now I just go to my local library and borrow the most recent edition. Get all the updates without having to pay for it. :cool1: And as PPs have stated, I also love the touringplans website.

I've purchased the UG on several different occasions and it is IMHO the most comprehensive Disney guide. This year I bought the 2011 guide for my Kindle. The book itself is huge. But even for a WDW veteran, it is so useful that I find it helpful to have access to it. With the Kindle app on my iPad and IPhone, it is much easier to have it handy on trips. :thumbsup2

I do not find that the guide is significantly different each year.

I go to the library too and copy any touring plans in the back and any other info I think I may need. We can check it out for 2 weeks and then renew for 2 more weeks.
