Do you not wash your hands after you are finished ;)

My hand would only be disgusting because your dirty feet have been on the flusher. Then I use that hand on the door handle, do you guys use your feet for that as well?

I think LoraJ answers this quite well. Of course I wash my hands but very few stalls have hand washing facilities so I will need to use my hand (you know the thing with opposable thumbs that makes unlocking doors easy!) to open the stall door before going to wash my hands. As LoraJ correctly says this means the filth you put on the flush handle from your dirty shoes is now on the door handle....good luck with that! :snooty:

I voted other. I use a big old wad of TP and drop it in the toilet. I make sure it all goes down.

Depends on where I'm at and the condition of the bathroom. For the most part I'm also a rebel. Sit on the seat, use my hand to flush, and wash my hands after I'm done.

There are the occasional restrooms that are absolutely disgusting, but the only one's available to use at the time. If I know I can hold it , I will avoid using it. If I can't then I will usually go straight to the sink and wet a couple of paper towels. One I'll put hand soap, one just wet and I'll take one dry. I will wipe down the seat with the wet-soapy towel. Wipe the soap off with the wet towel and then wipe it dry. I will usually wrap the wet towels in the some what still dry towel and dispose of after. Once I'm done with my business, I will flush with my foot; then head back straight to the sink to give my hands a good scrub down. These are usually few and far between; and I don't feel guilty for flushing with my foot. It was already dirty to begin with, so what if it gets a little dirtier.

I have never heard of anyone using their foot to flush the toilet before coming to the DIS boards. JUST WASH YOUR HANDS!!!

I think it is so disgusting that someone would put their dirty shoe where other people place their hands.

If you are so concerned about germs, JUST PUT SOME TOILET PAPER ON YOUR HAND BEFORE FLUSHING!!

Sorry if I am coming on strong, but please there are other alternatives.

Some toilets in Europe flush via a handle hanging from a chain. I'd like to see some of you flush that with your feet. ;)

I use my hands unless it's a floor pedal clearly meant for feet. It bothers me more that people are leaving junk from their feet on the handles than anything else.

Yes, and for you people who use your hands too. You can use your feet, or you can use toilet paper, or carry hand sanitizer if you don't want to touch something that other people touch with their dirty shoes. All those things that are said to foot flushers can also be said to you hand flushers. The way you feel, that the handle is gross because of someone's shoe is the way I feel about it without having a shoe even placed on it.
The foot flushing is gross, hand flushing is gross debate will never end. The only thing we all can agree on is never forget to wash your hands after using the stall.

i use my fingers. a lot of flush buttons are actually on the cistern and not raised, so it's pretty much impossible to flush with your foot. besides, i always wash my hands anyway.

All these thing that are said to foot flusher can also be said to you hand flushers? Not really these people who flush the toilet with their hands clean them after they do it. When was the last time you cleaned the soles of your shoes?

I think that's what skivves me out about the foot flushers. They don't realize that they could have walked through urine, dog poop, other people's spit, vomit or blood from sidewalks, baby feces, adult feces, any number of disgusting things that you are now putting on a surface with your shoe that other people are going to be touching with their hands.

Care to get up and walk across the public tables in the food court with your dirty shoes while you're at it? Same difference.

We all have to share public facilities. If other people's "germs" on the toilet handle (or toilet seat) gross you out, then don't use the facilities that everyone has to share. By flushing with your foot, you're leaving them in worse condition than when you walked in; something that is generally frowned upon in polite society.

Wow!!! I can't believe how defensive everyone is about this topic. And I am considered arrogant?? I guess we should all agree to disagree and do what makes us feel safe. I am an avid foot flusher and always have been. Others are hand flushers and are happy with that. I think it is a comical topic but it just goes to show how different strokes for different folks make up this world of ours. No need to defend yourselves if you are happy with your method. Whatever floats your boat is fine.

Ok...so since I am considered ARROGANT let me take this a step further. How about I do not allow people to walk on my floors with their shoes. I have a hallway to take them off when you enter!! I dont think I am arrogant, at least I am not trying to be. It was just how I was brought up. Do I wear slippers in the house? Sure do, and they have never been worn outside. I can't prevent EVERY germ from entering my home and I dont try to. I just try to keep things at a minimum. No need to get upset and start name calling. I think its just a matter of personal preference and we should respect each others views and opinions no matter how far to the left they are from ours. Hand flush or foot flush, this is a FUNNY topic!!

Fingers!!! Now that was an unexpected option!! I guess you do what you gotta do!!

But, you see, what you do in your house is your business because it impacts only you, your family and friends.

What you do in a public restroom impacts...the public...which includes me.

So, I thank you for dragging all the disgusting germs of the outside ground into the rest room and then putting them on the handle that I will then touch. Your gift is much appreciated!:thumbsup2 But hey, as long as you feel safe, what does it matter about the rest of us, right?

Uumm, yes. Sorry folks I will always use my foot if you have a problem touching the handle with your bare hands after, then don't. You have plenty of other options.

I've always thought of this issue as a "chicken and the egg" one. The handle is dirty because of the foot flushers tracking all kinds of germs from the floor (which is the nastiest part of the bathroom, BTW) onto the handle BUT they flush with their foot because the handle is dirty. :confused3

Personally, the people who squat and miss bother me more. Or the people who don't even bother to flush.

If the handle is on the toilet, then I use my hand. If it's on the wall, I use my foot.

I hope you dont lose sleep over this at night!!! But since you thanked me, I guess the appropriate thing for me to do is say "Youre welcome!!!" :lmao:
Why should you care what you touch since you wash your hands anyway right?? :lmao:

Yeah yeah...it's on!! :rotfl2:

Just think of the people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. They have used their hand where your nasty shoes have been and now they are opening the same doors your are, pushing elevator buttons, etc.

If they are using the toilet and not washing their hands, what difference does it make. They are the grossest of us all
