University of New Orleans - Lakefront Arena - Safe area?

My daughter and some of her friends want us to take them to a concert being held at the Lakefront Arena at the University of New Orleans.

I know many areas of New Orleans can be dangerous. How about this one and the surrounding neighborhoods? Would we have any trouble getting to and from a nice hotel in the area and where would be the best place to get a room?

You should be fine. That area of the city isn't bad. They'll be lots of security out there anyway, so don't worry. The only problem is that it isn't close to the interstate, so you'll have to drive down Franklin Ave to get there, but it's an easy route. It's on the Lakefront, and not in a "Neighborhood". It's on a busy Blvd and there are no "Undesireables" hanging around. The only issue you could have is the fellow concert-goers. What type of people do you feel would go to this concert?

Safe area and you will be parking onsite so it's not like you have to walk through neighborhoods to get to the venue. Are you looking to stay close to the Arena or did you want to venture out a little more? This is mostly a residential area surrounding the Arena.

The concert is Shinedown in October.

We would probably be more comfortable staying in an area where there are restaurants and hotel chains.

Thanks for the help. When I think of going to NO I never know which areas are safe and which aren't.

When my friend got married, her wedding party stayed at the Hampton Inn on St. Charles Ave. It's uptown, not downtown so it's a little more laid back. It's right next door to the Superior Grill which is an AWESOME restaurant with great margaritas It's also on the streetcar line, so perfect for sightseeing.

You would have to drive to the Arena from here as they are in totally different areas, but it would be a nice way to have a mini vacation with your concert!
