I seem to recall a date posted at one point. Is the close still happening soon? I know the date
was before my March trip so I was disappointed. Any news?

It is still on the chopping block. Right now I'd say you are fine for it to be open still in March but you never know.

Glad to see it go when it does. Just saying......

While it certainly was not one of the more thrilling rides/attractions it was one of the originals and it's always a shame to see one of them close. Also because we all know that the building will just sit their vacant for a long period of time it becomes even more disheartening. The ride also was very good at eating up a lot of people in a hurry and was enjoyable especially on a hot/rainy day.

1) And, a really nice place to take a nap while the rest of the family is entertained.
2) You might have noticed that some of the dinosaur "roars" were just people like me snoring.

This can't come fast enough. The ride really is showing its age down to the quality of the film stock used for the projections and the scientific content which is flawed and dated. When we go next summer, it will be skipped even if open.

I certainly agree if they were going to replace it with something else. However we all know that it is just going to sit there as an empty building for a long time.

Not true. If Universe of energy goes it would be turned into something else. No empty building.

They do have a history of cutting their losses so never know.
And even using something here and there for festival overflow doesn't make it well utilized.

And the two large buildings that never even opened their attractions sitting in Germany and Japan.

I don't know if you can count Innoventions. It wasn't really empty until this year. It still has somethings in it (meet and greets). We also don't know what their plans are for the space or how soon those plans would come to fruition.

There are certain charms that I appreciate about UoE, but it is a terrible representation of where energy needs to be going in 2016 and beyond.
Though I'd be thrilled to have a GOTG ride just about anywhere, I'd also love to see an update for modern energy.

The problem with FutureWorld and anywhere like themed is that practically by time you build something, it's no longer the future, it's like the past. Buy a contemporary house, and it is dated very quickly. Honestly Epcot's FutureWorld needs a complete re-imagineering because there is no future happening and at Disney pace, never will be.

Energy - aside from all the other issues as you say, it's way too long, always empty and no way a good investment anymore.
Mission - space program is more commercial and this just isn't relevant
Test Track - a car commercial
Life - DEAD
Seas - what a sad sad place. The glass is all cloudy, fish minimal, reminds me of later 20K Leagues years. Zero future, only old.
Land - Soarin' has nothing to do with the future, the boat shows some modern farming ......
Imagination - sad. Nothing about the future there.
Spaceship earth - love it. Great history lesson.
Innoventions - DEAD
Odyssey - DEAD

I can't even call it FutureWorld without rolling my eyes. It needs a serious round table discussion and a solid cohesive plan going forward.

We like Universe of Energy but agree that it sorely needs updating. It was so much more interesting when it first opened and still had interesting music. We didn't dislike the Ellen / Jeopardy overlay but it got old very quickly. The dark room with the radio broadcasts was never good. People need to be immersed in the theme of each pavilion and each should/can entertain as well as educate. Dark rides could have continued and new thrill rides related to the theme could have been added. This would have satisfied people who can't or won't do thrill rides at the same time as those that crave them. Reimagining the entirety of FW might be the only solution at this time.

Some of the very examples I was thinking about my mentioned that the Universe of Energy building would probably remain vacant if it closed.

If they really want to update Epcot left a lot of places a good put something new without building a building yet they have been doing that! The attraction buildings in Germany and Japan certainly should be prime candidates for something new since they are just basic shells at this time.

I agree! I would love its message brought forward, updated rather than replaced. Since that wont happen Ill hopefully get one more trip down memory lane in March.

I've said this before, I'll miss it because I actually kind of liked it, but I won't be devastated. I'll forward to the replacement, whatever it is

Yes, that never makes sense to me. We actually always sit in the back, last car, so we only have to hear for a very short time. I miss the old songs too.

I do hope they keep it as a dark ride if/when it gets redone & not a thrill ride. I love thrill rides, but EPCOT needs more dark rides everyone can do. I hope they keep the dinos, but I doubt it if they go Guardians of the Galaxy.

I kind of liked Energy. We were there a couple of weeks ago and escaped into this ride while a thunderstorm was going on. I adore Ellen and the Jeopardy storyline is cute. But I can't dispute that this attraction is showing its age and, as with most of the rest of Future World, it's probably time to think about a different direction for it.
