Universal with Food Allergies

We have life threatening food allergies to tree nuts and peanuts. We're also vegan. I've read a lot about the vegan offerings at Universal, but how do they handle allergies? Are they as good as Disney with the chefs coming to talk to you, binders with ingredients, and what not?

I seriously doubt the counter service places at Universal will be able to provide you much information about food allergies.

Maybe at the table service restaurants - I think any chef should know the basics about tree nut/peanut allergens in their food. But if those items are in any item on the menu, there is never a guarantee of food being 100% free if you really have a life-threatening response.

Sounds like you have complicated food needs....

I did find service at Universal to be quite good in general. It was not quite the above and beyond that you are more likely to find at Disney. I suspect you'll find "good" assistance - but I would not count on outstanding assistance in helping you navigate with your dietary restrictions.

Hmmm... we may have to bring in our own snacks and lunch food, but that's okay.

Does anyone know if they have a phone number for the main dining office at all? Or a special diets department? That could help with the counter service options, knowing ingredients in advance.

We usually avoid places that serve a lot of nut ingredients, thanks for the reminder. I'll look at the menus on Allears to get a rough idea of who does that.

At any of the full serve restaurants, the chef will come to your table to discuss your options. Ask the server.

Chef Bob, the head chef, can probably help you out with any other info beforehand. The phone number he gives in his emails to visitors is 321-388-2123. You can also call guest services and they will connect you with him.
