Hello. I see a lot of discussion of DW vs DL and how DL is much more laid back and requires less planning etc. Just curious if there is really much difference between the 2 universal parks.

From what I have seen they are very different in pretty much every aspect. Universal Hollywood has a few rides, the backstage tour and some Potter whereas Universal Orlando is 100% theme parks - far more immersion and designed to be a vacation destination. You also get 2 theme parks, 2 Wizarding worlds, Hogwarts Express, Hagrid's magical creatures coaster. UH is a day out, UO is a complete package break.

It has been a while since we went to UH (no Harry Potter at the time), but Lashed34's comments seem to be right on. We've been to UO many times, and it is much bigger and the onsite hotels really gives it a "resort" feel instead of just a nice theme park.

THis :) we live in Los Angeles i think we counted the rides at UH and there are 7.

They’re very different but I like both. USO is a(n extremely well done but) typical resort-style theme park. USH is still a working studio in addition to being a theme park. So although it is smaller, it has some offerings unavailable at any other US theme park, including the Studio Tour, which mixes a guided tour with rides and special effects and the chance to maybe spot a celebrity (I never have though). They also have staged special effects shows that are a little campy but very fun. DH liked the Water World show so much we saw it three nights in a row and cleared out so slowly the last night, we ended up hanging out and taking photos with some of the cast. But, it is small. I can do a solid 3 days at USH, where as ISO is a 5-6 day park for me.

However, the biggest difference between USO and USH at the moment is that USO is open and USH is not. The governor of California is absolutely steadfast in his resolve to keep theme parks closed indefinitely, even saying two days ago that there was “no hurry” to open them. So if you are looking to vacation anytime before next summer, USO is for you. And maybe even after that.
