In November my husband and I are going to Disney Nov16-22.
I have been several times but he has never been. I have also been to Universal but it's been almost 10 years now.
He has been looking into Universal and wants to go so we have talked about how we are going to change our trip around.
There really isn't much that he wants to do in MGM pobably just Rockin Roller Coaster, Star tours, Sci Fi to eat....
I'm thinking that if we have to miss a park or cut something down this might be the one.
We are not going to IOA so how much time would you give to Universal? A day?

Yeah, I honestly think Universal is superior to MGM.

If you do all the rides, movies, and shows, (and repeat whatever you want to do again), a full day will be perfect.

Definately Universal. Why aren't you going to IOA?

My husband just is not as interested in IOA as much.
I think when we go next year we may do that one also.

Hey neighbor! Central NY here too! You can probably do Universal in a day and I do think its better than MGM, which I also really enjoy. Next year you should try IOA too though, as it is my favorite park over Universal and MGM. Universal has changed a lot since you've been. My wife and I went in Jan of 1992 and went back for the first time for our tenth Anniversary last October (well, if you do the math she really wasn't my wife the first time we went:p ) and we were amazed at how it has grown. The onsite hotels and eateries are great and rides second to none.

Universal def over MGM and don't forget u will have themummy to enjoy as well:jester:

UNIVERSAL!!! Don't get me wrong I love MGM, but if I had a choice it would definately be Universal!!!! It may be lacking in quality food, but the superior entertainment definately wins. If you haven't been in that long you will be in for a treat!! I know I can't wait to ride the new rides (Mummy, Newtron, and Shrek) but I love beating my husband on Men In Black (he gets so mad, Hee Hee Hee!!! because I know the secret and I won't tell him!!!:teeth: ) The beetlejuice show is really good too!!! If you do decide to do MGM though, you will not be disappointed Rock'N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror are AWESOME!!!!! The other attractions are good, but in my oppinion could use some updating. If this helps any you can see MGM well in 3/4 of a day and you will be waiting around to see the parade, but it also makes the day relaxing. Universal you need the whole day and prob. won't get to everything, but you feel a little rushed. It's all in what YOU want out of your vacation.

Ok another question.
Should we stay our last night at a Universal hotel and go to Universal that next day so we can get the front of the line deal?
We are going in November, will the crowds still be big so that we will need this or could we still just stay at Disney and Drive over for the day? We don't want to wait in huge lines if we don't have to

Do you enjoy checking out different resorts? If so why not go ahead and stay in one of the Loews resorts for one night just to make it easy if nothing else.

I think that Universal is far superior to MGM too. There is a lot of new stuff at Universal while MGM is pretty much the same at least for now. If none of the restaurants at Universal appeal to you, you always have Citywalk just a few steps away.

If u are looking for good food at universal try lombards its pretty good also finnegans has a varied menu if trying for a diffrent meal
:jester:

Well for me it would depend on how many people you were traveling with and if you don't mind unpacking/packing again. I think you can buy a pass that will allow you to hop to the front of the line if you don't want to wait. I don't know much about the passes though.

If its not too much hastle, try the on site hotels for a night. You may like them so much that you may want to plan a future trip. I think that staying on site and using the FOTL is the only way to do universal. I think that the onsite experience and FOTL make the whole trip and is something that Universal definately holds over Disney.

I have to agree with the rest! I love MGM, but Universal would win hands down! :)

You all have been very helpful. We are not sure but it looks like what we might do now is go to Orlando 2 days earlier and stay two nights at One of the Universal Resorts. ( we are not sure which one yet... any suggestions?) Then head over to WDW. We were only going for 6 nights and we don't think that will be enough , especially with adding on Universal.

You will love all of the Universal resorts. We love the RPR (most economical)...but not skimpy by any means. Our next trip we are staying at HRH and PBH.

Have a great trip!
