Do you think the same will happen with the smoking ban?

Wouldn’t be surprised. It’s already made as inconvenient as possible to smoke with the confines.

And the stroller limitations and no more ice. Saw that this morning.

As for the smoking, I am not sure. I was actually wondering if it is another attempt by disney to lower crowd numbers. Or maybe they just need more room inside the parks.

Whatever, it will not affect me or anyone in my group, but I can certainly see it making some people have second thoughts on visiting a park. And to be honest, if I smoked, I would probably be looking for somewhere else to go.

I'm a fence with this whether they will, or won't, but I know that I hope they don't.

While I'm not a smoker, my mother is and on top of that has issues with movement, as well as most times is in pain. We finally encouraged her and got her to go on a Disney trip and it was a struggle and was a nightmare for her due to the lack of smoking areas / knowledge of them.

While she normally abides by rules, she got desperate enough at one point in Animal Kingdom that she found a secluded area in which no one was in and smoked since we asked several people where the smoking areas where in the park and those individuals said they didn't know. This is also a person who doesn't even smoke in her own house out of courtesy of me. Only for her to get caught and reprimanded rudely and with so much judgement I was shocked. She was breaking the rules and I expected for them to warn and reprimand her, but I didn't expect her to be treated so harshly.

After her experience, she has stated if she ever went back to a park it would be Universal, as she always liked and preferred Universal when we visited when I was younger anyway, but if this happens, there is no way she would agree to go. As much as I wish she would let it go, she feel she cannot, it feels like a need more than a desire, and her inability to move properly and pain just makes her want to do it more as a coping mechanism.

I wish they were at least honest with themselves and others as to why they were doing it, as it has nothing to do with traffic control, as I know these smoking areas now due to my mother and they are secluded enough and would not cause congestion. If they were selling cigarettes, on top of the alcohol they now serve this wouldn't have happened.

What happened with the strollers and ice?

To prevent congestion in the future, Disney has banned bigger strollers in the parks and give specific measurements of limitations.

As well as banned "loose" and "dry" ice. As for the ice, there has not been official word, or reasoning for the ban, so that's up for debate on what the reason is.

Like ice cubes? That’s weird. I’ll have to search the stroller limitations. We JUST bought a stroller for our son so that’s going to be a bummer if Universal follows suit and we can’t use it. I think it’s technically an umbrella stroller, but not a little one.

I didn't know where the smoking areas at disney are (universal either) because I have never seen them, or noticed them. Never gave it any thought. But that still leaves me wondering why. I understand the strollers. The last time I was there my foot was ran over by a grandpa pushing a child in a stroller that was almost the size and weight of a mac truck. My foot hurt so much, I actually had to get a wheel chair by noon the next day. It still hurts sometimes and that was 5 years ago.

I am pro choice on everything and as long as you are not pushing me or anyone else to do it too and you are doing it where you are allowed so I can easily skip the area, I am fine with anyone who wants to smoke. I have friends and family that smoke. If I have never even noticed a smoking area in the parks, it can't be a problem.

I am also not totally sure about the loose ice but I would imagine that could be causing problems at security. And if something is causing a problem, then it needs to be fixed for the sake of others.

I bet there are lots of people that will not visit the parks if they make the designated area to inconvenient which it sounds like they are. I have friends who smoke that use to go on a cruise with me every year, sometimes twice a year they stopped going when you could not smoke in your room anymore and that included your balcony. They said it was just to inconvenient, and they are actually right because on my next cruise I went to find where it was because I was going to say, no big deal, it is as easy to get to as your room. It wasn't, but it was packed with people and there were only 6 or so chairs with one table and I only saw one ash tray. Crew members were there too. They all looked like they were having a good time though.

Re: stroller limits, it looks like the limits are 31” wide and 52” long, and the article I read noted that many double jogging strollers fit these requirements. I’m having trouble picturing a stroller bigger than a double jogger. I can see how something like that would gum things up or injure pedestrians.

Wow, so looking up specific information. All I can hear is cha-ching. Here's why.

"Strollers must be 31” wide and 52” long or smaller. Stroller wagons will not be permitted. Strollers are available for rent at Disney parks."

Also, I pulled up an article that did give explanation for the ice, as it states, "As of March 28, loose and dry ice is no longer allowed in Disney parks. Reusable ice packs are recommended. Cups of ice are available for free at food and beverage locations in the parks. The change was made to improve guest flow, according to the Disney website."

Now strollers, make sense, the ice is a total contradiction. If you have to stand in line in order to get it for free at food and beverage locations you therefore will be not improving guest flow, however you're creating more of a chance that someone will be desperate enough to what? Buy something to drink, or eat.

Bingo! Which all goes back to one of my original statements: If they were selling cigarettes, on top of the alcohol they now serve this wouldn't have happened.
Disney cut smoking from its films, or most of them, years ago and smoking bans generally are on the rise, so that part doesn’t really surprise me The stroller thing is at least facially justifiable. But the ice is just weird and calls into question the “real” reason for the whole package of changes.

I don't think the ice thing is weird.

I imagine it has to do with the security line. Maybe ice has been spilled (and then melts). Maybe those dollar store soft sided coolers I see people with was dripping water everywhere.

I say this because it said you can use those refreezable ice thingys. It is only loose ice you can't have.

Could be! I’d like to see Disney’s press release though because the link between banning loose ice and improving traffic flow, as the articles are reporting, isn’t intuitive. However, they didn’t say you can’t freeze bottles of water or anything, which is good if you can’t have ice cubes for drinks.

The ice thing seems common sense for me.
why are people still using ice anyway? No one has used ice in a cooler in Australia for decades.
We all use icepacks that you freeze and reuse.
Security can't be sifting thru loose ice in coolers.

I don't give a rats patootie the reasons this ban is coming in for smoking, I just hope Universal follow suit and ban it there too...….

And the giant strollers that seem to carry enough stuff for a months visit to go camping in the Himalayas!!!! Usually no kids in them either...…..imagine we all turned up with giant strollers in the one day.....no one would be able to move!!!!

But, did hear talk when we were there of a smoking ban......I`m all for it!!!! And yes, I`d be that person to point out someone flaunting the rules to TM when people don't think rules apply to them......there`s always some.

I've read that the ice thing is a problem because people fill their coolers with it and security has to dig through the ice cubes to see if anything is hidden there. Screening like at Universal would allow them to just throw the coolers through the screener instead of rummaging around through the ice cubes.
