There are some dates blocked out (definitely Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks). Rate is very much date based also. I already bought a buy 3 get 2 free ticket for November, and comparing my rate on a discounter website this new one would be $24 cheaper.

Even better - they added an “Adults pay Child Prices” offer today, which is combinable.

I needed a 2 day pass for Oct 1st. The 5 day pass gives us a backup plan for a waterpark day (in case it rains), but also let’s us book a Tuesday starting ticket instead of Saturday (saving $40 per ticket). Add that to the child priced tickets ($35 savings), and we saved $190 on three two day passes!

The child priced ticket offer expires on Friday (5/19).

Do you have to use your first day on the date selected? For example, if I plan for my first day on a Friday do I need to select Friday or can I choose an earlier day for better pricing?

No, just like Disney, they just have to be used in the window they are valid. From the Universal website -

The Guest’s first visit may take place on any date within a predetermined usage window. Days used do not have to be consecutive, but all days must be used within the specified date range.
