Universal/Islands of Adventure in summer. Insane to even entertain the idea?

I have been to Disney 18 times and I have never gone to Universal. This summer I am bringing my niece, who is a huge Hary Potter fan. So we are going to go over there 1 day. I too need to rent the movies so my 2 kids and I will know what everything is all about. I am looking at how to get Universal 1 day tickets as cheaply as possible for 4 of us. Any suggestions? We are staying on Disney property so we can't use any on site discounts. I also need to know is there any transportation other than taxi to get from POP to Universal? Thanks for the help.

One day tickets are not usually discounted. Like Disney...the longer you stay the cheaper the tickets so one day tickets are pretty much full price.

You can find information on transportation options here:

I'll see if I can get the kids interested in reading the HP books. They have about two weeks left of school and if I mention summer reading, even fun reading, right now, the might freak out. lol

Are the books really long? Seems like I heard they were. Then again, we read the Twilight books and those were pretty long too. And I'm sure the HP books are better......at least, I hope!

Better than Twilight? That depends. For boys, probably. For girls - maybe not. I think the attraction of Twilight was the perspective of a high school girl who wasn't "cool" but who won the heart of the boy everybody wanted.

The HP books start getting longer when you get to book 4. The paperback version of book 1 is 309 pages; book 7 is 759 pages.

I got the HP books on unabridged CD and listened to them in the car. The actor Jim Dale reads them, and he's great.

If you go this route, one warning: the CDs fit very loosely in the cardboard covers. Be careful when you put them in and take them out. I currently have one stuck vertically between the seat and the armrest of my car, down on the floor. Can't figure out how to get it out of there.
