Hello all, long time reader, as you can tell from my number of posts, brand new to posting on the website, and as well this will be my first...but not last trip report. I guess before I get to much into anything I will introduce the "cast" of the trip.

Me (Ryan) - I am 28 years old, currently working in retail and going to school at Miami of Ohio for Health Information Technology. I love, love, love going to amusement parks, former member of ACE (American Coaster Enthusiast). I, like most of everyone on here, am a big Disney freak, my wife often tells me I have "Peter Pan syndrome". While I always enjoyed the movies, my obsession didn't really jump untill I held a college intern at Walt Disney World, spending four months in the area was amazing. Other small tidbits, I am a sports nut, huge Bengals and Reds fan, obsessed with collecting anything such as bobble heads, shot glasses, comic books and park maps from amusement parks I have visited. Enough with me, now to the "boss" of the family.

My wife (Ashley) - She is 26 years old, currently working two jobs and going to school at Cincinnati State to become an RN. She, being the great wife that she is, pretty much supports all my crazy enjoyments in life. While not as big of an amusement park fan as me, she will travel all over with me, taking in all the wonderful places we get to visit and experience together.

Now very quick onto what brought us to visiting Universal Studios this summer. We just celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary, and haven't been on a "vacation" since our honeymoon (which was at Walt Disney World!!). Since then we have been blessed with our first child who is now 20 months old, and both of us have been working non stop and going to school full time, so we decided to take the summer off and do something for us, before we start bringing the little man around with us on future vacations (we plan on taking him to Disney World for the first time once he turns 4, more of an excuse for us to go back sooner rather than later).

Now onto the more exciting stuff, we will be staying at the Royal Pacific Resort from June 19th through June 26th. Arriving at MCO around 11:45am from Cincinnati on the 19th, and leaving Orlando at 5:40pm on the 26th. Below is a very brief itinerary of our trip, I will try to update as much as possible while we are down there. I will only have my phone on me, we are going to be leaving the laptop at home.

June 19 Tues. - Flight lands, dinner at Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney(had to visit a little part of Disney).
June 20 Wed. - Universal, dinner at Margaritaville.
June 21 Thurs. - IOA, lunch at Mythos
June 22 Fri. -Universal
June 23 Sat. -IOA
June 24 Sun. - Universal
June 25 Mon. - IOA
June 26 Tues. - Open

We will also be eating at Hard Rock Cafe and Bubba Gumps for sure, still debating on a couple other places. And in there somewhere, will be two(maybe 3)very competitive games of putt putt at the new Hollywood Drive-In Golf. We love to compete in almost everything we do, both of us played sports growing up, and love to compete....in a healthy way of course. ;)

Thanks everyone for reading. I will also have links up after we get back, so if interested everyone can see the unrealistic amount of pictures I take wherever I visit.

Look forward to it......hope you have a wonderful time :thumbsup2

Sorry everyone, I was not able to post anything while on vacation. We left the laptop at home, and trying to connect to the internet through my phone was horribly slow. Despite being in Orlando while Tropical Storm Debby was pouding the state, we had a blast.....a little rain never hurt anyone. Well hope you all enjoy reading, feel free to ask any questions.

Day 1 – (Downtown Disney) Tuesday June 19th

We arrived to the airport around 7:00a, to get through everything for our plane to take off around 9:45a. Nice smooth start to the trip, bag check, security, breakfast and a smooth flight, off to a good start. We landed in Orlando around 12:15a, after going through and grabbing our bags, went down to check in with Hertz and waited for our van. After a short wait we were on our way to our hotel, we were the last stop on the van, but overall only took about an hour from getting off the plane and arriving at our hotel.

The Royal Pacific was beautiful, the staff out front was super nice and welcoming to the hotel, we arrived at the hotel around 1:15p, and decided to go ahead and check in early….luckily a room was ready!!!We got to go straight to our room, tower 2, floor 6….room 2614. The room was absolutely gorgeous, an awesome view looking at The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Doom Fearfall and Hollywood Rip Ride Rock it off in the background. We quickly got everything unpacked and started our tour around the hotel, everything was just amazing. The hotel area itself is huge, I think it took roughly two hours to walk around and see everything; however I was a little disappointed that they don’t have any quick service restaurants in the hotel, everything seemed to be dine-in, or if you took carry out, they still applied a tip to the bill.

It was about 5:00p, we were not planning anything big for the evening, just going to head over to Downtown Disney and eat at Planet Hollywood. Sad to say this was probably the “worst” part of the trip for us, now it wasn’t a bad experience, so if this was the “worst part” then as you will see our trip was pretty amazing. First trying to get over to Disney from Universal is not cheap, it was either take the transportation that the hotel offers, which would have been $40 without a tip each way, or take a taxi, which ended up being $70 both ways including the tip. However on positive note, our taxi driver was awesome, very friendly, nice and talkative. Finally after getting stuck in small rush hour traffic, we finally made our way to Downtown Disney, we decided to walk around first and check everything out, starting over by Disney Quest and moving across. It has been three years since we last visited Disney, and Downtown Disney hadn’t changed a whole lot, looks like they got rid of the McDonald’s, started construction on the bowling alley in the old Virgin store, and switched out some small stores along the way. Visited a couple of my favorite stores like the sports store, the pin trading store and the toy store, kind of disappointed in the fact that they didn’t have a whole lot of new items. All the shot glasses, and most of the merchandise at the sports store were exactly the same as what I purchased three years ago, the toy store had “some” new items, but the two items that I collect, they hadn’t released and/or were out of anything that I didn’t have yet. And there weren’t a whole lot of new pins that I didn’t already have, besides the ones that had “2012” on them, I had most of the other pins that they had out to purchase.

So after walking around a little, not really finding anything worth purchasing, we decided to go and eat at Planet Hollywood. It was only about a 15 minute wait, I haven’t really came across a lot of restrooms that has someone stationed in there, turning the faucet on for you and everything….it’s really kind of weird to me, not sure if I’m the only one that it bothers. After our small wait we get seated, second floor right next to a giant alien. It took a little over 5 minutes were our server to greet us, and about the same to bring us our drinks. I used to serve and I know how busy it gets, but waiting over 10 minutes to be greeted and receive your drinks is usually not acceptable. Not to be negative at all, moving on, the food was good, nothing special but have defiantly had a lot worse, the server defiantly didn’t have that “Disney” magic that we hear about, out of all the servers we had throughout the trip, she was the worst of them, not rude or anything, but the service wasn’t anything that you couldn’t get from an outback or Applebee’s. After finishing our food, we decided to go ahead and call our taxi to pick us back up and cut our visit to Downtown Disney short.

It was only around 9:00p, and we weren’t tired at all, so we decided to head out to Citywalk and try a round of Putt-Putt at the new Hollywood Drive-In Golf. First, I’m not sure if since it’s been roughly 6 years since we have been to Universal, or maybe the fact that I’m 28, my wife is 26, and we had no kids with us, but Citywalk blew away Downtown Disney for us. Citywalk was very bright, it was crowded, but wasn’t overwhelming like Disney feels often. We walked around for a little bit, just taking in our first night of vacation, enjoying the nice Florida evening weather. We then headed over to putt-putt, it was a little expensive, but they, like most places accepted AAA. I love playing putt-putt and have played a course whenever I get the chance to find one, and first let me say, Universal has the best putt-putt course I have ever played. I recommend to anyone, if you’re at Citywalk, and are thinking about playing putt-putt…..DO IT!!

There are two different sides, a horror side and a Sci-Fi side, we tried the horror side our first night, the holes were themed very well, even the ones that you thought were very simple, had small surprises for you along the way. After a very competitive round of Putt-Putt, I ended up edging out my wife by 5, and shot a rough 4 over par. Again it was by far the most enjoyable time we had ever playing putt-putt. Props go out to Universal and whoever designed this amazing course.

After that we grabbed ice cream at TCBY and decided to call it a night, head back to the hotel to get ready for day number two at Universal Studios.

Coming up....Day 2. Universal Studios, dinner at Margaritaville. Pictures will follow once I finish uploading everything.

Day 2 – (Universal Studios) Wednesday June 20th

Finally, it was time to visit Universal Studios, I think it’s been about 6-7 years since my wife and I have been to Universal or IOA. Her favorite park of the two is Universal Studios, so we went there our first day. We woke up around 9:00a, got dressed and headed straight for the park. We hardly took the boat from RPR to the parks, the walk from the hotel was actually very nice and not too long at all. We got through the gates pretty quickly, and headed straight for Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-it.

The line was pretty short, we ended up waiting 20-25 minutes. The line went rather quick, after paying most of our attention to watching the queue video, listening to the songs, determining which song we would choose. Before you knew it, we were going up the steps and walking onto the moving platform getting into the trains. The crew was very quick and did an excellent job of getting people on and off the train’s quickly and hardly ever stacking trains. My wife who is a huge huge huge country fan, was a little disappointed by the selection they had for country music, so she went with Kanye West, I chose to go with Finger Eleven. Our selections were in and we were going up the lift. We have both rode plenty of roller coasters, but going straight up the lift looking at the sky is a completely different feeling, and just added to the excitement of being tossed down the first drop of the coaster. The ride overall was very smooth, had a couple spots of “air-time” and pretty much covered the entire left side of Universal Studios. I guess the only negative about the ride, and it’s a very small negative is, Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-it does not offer Universal Express, but that’s being super picky. They do however offer a single rider line.

After exiting the ride, doing a quick check on our on ride photo and video, we headed back to Despicable Me, which I was super excited to see was open. It was actually open each day we visited Universal Studios, not sure if they have had in consistently open, or we just got super lucky with the ride being open. Sad to say neither my wife nor I had ever seen the movie, nor knew a whole lot about it. So the whole thing was relatively new to us, but immediately after getting off the ride my wife said to me “I want to buy this movie when we get back home”. My wife is not a huge movie fan; I however love movies, so I immediately said yes. But back to the ride, I don’t really remember Jimmy Neutron, or any ride that was previously in this building, so I can’t really compare this ride to those, however in my opinion, Universal nailed it on the head with this ride. The ride was a blast, all the way from waiting in line, to the two pre shows; they were very funny and interesting and made the wait go by very quick. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes to get on. Right now they aren’t offering Universal Express while in the testing stage, or whatever they call it, but by the way the queue line is divided, I’m sure they will have it available on this ride once it officially opens, but don’t quote me on that, I have no idea.

After exiting Despicable me, we poked around through the gift shop for a little and then headed over to Shrek, we used our room key for Universal Express and walked right on, however I never seen the line for this ride go over a 20 minute wait. We were towards the back of room for the pre-show, but everyone seemed to listen and move in pretty quickly, and being pretty quiet so everyone could enjoy the pre-show. The pre-show nothing special, explains a little about the movie, and then sets it up for the actual show that you are going to view in a minute. We find a row, and of course like every 3D show we go to, someone stops right in the middle causing a big back up, and someone people couldn’t decide where they wanted to sit, so they kept roaming around the theater. The employee was pretty funny, asking people to sit down “telling them they are not purchasing a house, it’s just a seat they will only sit in for 13 minutes”, everyone got a pretty good laugh listening to him. The overall show itself I still enjoy, it has it’s humor going through, and they do a pretty good job with all the effects throughout the show, however if I didn’t have Universal Express with the room key, I don’t think I would see this more than once, actually we had the Express with our room key, and we only seen this show once the whole time.

After Shrek, we headed for Twister, again with our hotel room key, we had no wait at all and walked right in, the first pre show room was only about ¾ full, so they got everything started pretty quick. I really enjoyed the movie Twister, and really enjoy the entire ride from the pre-show, to walking through the house and to the main part of the show. We were in the third row, and I guess my wife thought we were really in a tornado, I lost feeling in my arm about half way through, and not to ruin anything for anybody, she truly though at the end she wasn’t going to make it, but to defend her, more than half the people in our show screamed very loudly at the very end. I do know that after being a part of that ride, watching the pre-show and everything, I never ever want to be in a real tornado, and couldn’t imagine having to experience that.

After Twister we poked around the shop for a little, and then headed over to The Mummy. Again with our hotel room key we only had about a 10 minute wait, the queue line for Universal Express is very dark and boring, not sure what the rest of it’s like. We sat in the front row, and besides the couple areas where they apply the brakes the ride is very smooth, the brakes are horrible on that ride though, at least in the front seat. Again a very unique experience starting with a show, then switching to a roller coaster, but never a boring ride, no matter how many times I ride it, I do however miss Kong, and wish somehow they could have both of the rides.

After getting off The Mummy we decided to grab some ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s, and head our way over to Disaster. I’m not sure how long it has been called Disaster, or when they changed over from Earthquake, but I love everything they switched on it. The guy we had doing the “casting” and keeping us entertained throughout the ride was hilarious, he made it very enjoyable and had everyone laughing constantly throughout the entire show/ride. The only downfall to Disaster is, it turns out to be a long ride, with all the different area’s you visit, and if a lot of people jump in line for express, it quickly makes its way out to walkway and confuses everyone. The main entrance employee had to constantly tell everyone that line was for Express and the entrance for everyone else was over on the other side, you could tell she was getting super annoyed.

Lucky for us, while we were going through Disaster, it had rained, and stopped raining by time we got off, so we were lucky enough to stay dry. After that we had over the bridge, which takes over the former Amityville/Jaws area, holding back the slight tear from not seeing Jaws anymore, we made our way to Men in Black.

Men In Black was by far our favorite ride of the whole trip, we love competitive games like Men in Black, and besides maybe Toy Store at Hollywood Studios, Men in Black is one of the best of its type. We ended up doing MIB 13 times throughout our vacation….that’s right I said 13, this time around we only did it twice. I didn’t keep track of our scores each time we rode, just our high scores. My wife ended up with a high score around 424,000, I finished with a high score around 748,000. The theming of the ride, like everything at Universal, makes you feel exactly like you are part of the movie, and you slowly start watching everywhere you go making sure no aliens followed you out of the ride.

After jumping off MIB our second time, we headed for The Simpsons, again with our hotel room key, our wait was only about 10 minutes, the area looks amazing since they switched over from Back to the Future to The Simpsons. Very bright and pretty much dead on to what the cartoon puts out. I had read about some people surprised by the videos, and things with this ride. I wasn’t surprised at all, and though they did a very good job of portraying the cartoon, I however am shocked by the parents that let their kids ride the ride, or if they allow them to watch the show, my wife was not allowed to watch The Simpsons while growing up, I watched it very often, but you don’t need to see the show to enjoy the ride at all. All the pre-shows were very funny, and made the wait go by quick. The ride itself was a lot smoother than Back to the Future, and I think is an excellent replacement to Back to the Future.

After getting off The Simpsons, it was about 2:00pm, and we had reservations at Margaritaville at 7:00p, so we decided to grab lunch at Monster’s Café and then head back to the hotel to rest before dinner.

Monster’s Café was really good, the pizza slices are huge, and pretty decently priced for amusement park food. I got a slice of pepperoni pizza, and my wife got a foot long and fries, both were very good, and we both were very impress with everything Monster’s Café offer’s from the food to the theming around the restaurant.

After taking a quick nap at the hotel, we headed back to Citywalk for our reservations at 7:00p at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritavile, we showed up about 10 minutes early, and they sat us right away, again both our food and server were very good. We had fried pickles as an appetizer and both chose the Cheeseburger in Paradise for dinner, and had margarita’s to drink, they got the food out to us super quick, and made everything very enjoyable for us. Make sure you stick around to watch the volcano “explode”, if you’re not sure when it will happen, just watch for everyone running to the bar at the same time.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel and decided to get in some night time swimming, it was raining a little bit, but people, were still swimming. We jumped in the pool for a little, got a lap in and spent the rest of the time relaxing in the hot tub. The pool closed at 11p, so we got out about 10:45p and headed up to get to bed for early entrance into IOA.

Coming up....Day 3. IOA, lunch at Mytho's, and a Harry Potter fan is born!!

Can't wait to read more! My mother's family is from Cincy -you have some fun coasters up there, too!

Can't wait to read more! My mother's family is from Cincy -you have some fun coasters up there, too!

Thank you. The state of Ohio is excellent for coaster lovers. We live about 20 minutes away from Kings Island, and about roughly 4 hours away from Cedar Point. Both excellent parks for coaster lovers, and it helps out there owned by the same company, so our pass works for both parks.

Day 3 – (IoA/Universal) Thursday June 21st

We got up nice and early to take advantage of early entrance, the park opened up at 9, 8:00a for resort guests. We got to the gate around 7:40a, and shortly after they were letting everyone into the park, and we were off. The crowd was pretty good, no one was sprinting, and everyone stayed calm pretty well, we took our time, snapping pictures of the park while it was empty for the most part. We finally made our way back to “Harry Potter Land”, I know nothing at all about Harry Potter, other than he is a wizard of some sort, I have never read any of the books or seen any of the movies……but after going through the area, riding the ride, walking through the shops….I was intrigued, I bought the first book….and LOVED IT, read the entire thing in 4 days. I know, who reads that much on vacation, well it rained pretty often, so I got a lot of reading time in, and read each night before bed. I ended up buying year 2 right after finishing year 1, currently am half way through year 2. The books are amazing, and made me enjoy the land and everything even more now that I knew the characters and different things I didn’t before. Ok back to the vacation.

WWOHP was simply amazing, by far the best themed area of any them park I have ever been to. You felt like you were part of everything; the shops were all themed exactly to what I was imagining while reading the books. Words cannot even describe on what this area is like, my wife and I both said the same exact thing when we walked in….WOW!

We walked through taking pictures of everything, and headed for Forbidden Journey, the queue line is amazing as well, you really feel like you are in a real castle, I was trying to pick up on anything I could from the books, but was in awe each time on how real it felt while being inside. With the early entrance we didn’t have to wait at all and pretty much walked directly on the ride. And to continue with the pure amazement of WWOHP, Forbidden Journey knocks it out of the park as well. FJ is very easily the best ride I have ever rode, better than any coaster, better than any show. It’s hard to even compare it to anything, kind of like Soarin’ at Epcot, where you really feel like you are flying, and like Spiderman at IoA, switching between screen and “real life” rooms. I think best describing it would be, it’s like Spiderman on steroids. The cast on the ride was amazing, sticking to theme, calling everyone “muggles” and talking to little kids about wizardry. Can’t say anything more about the ride other than…WOW!

After getting off we grabbed a quick cup of Butterbeer, man that is good we ended up getting it three times throughout the trip, only trying the frozen Butterbeer, but each time it was better and better.

Finally my wife pulled me out of the land, and we made our way over to Marvel Super Hero Island to be begin our round around the park. The park still was not open to regular guests, so we went straight for The Incredible Hulk, which had no wait at all. We sat in the front row, and were the only people on the entire train. One of my favorite coasters of all time, it still does not disappoint, the blast off straight into the corkscrew is the best part of the ride for me. The rest of the ride is fun, however it’s a little more on the rough side than I remember from last time, but still one of my favorite coasters. One downfall I did notice about the que line, where the line combines between express pass and non express pass, there was not any cast member there to help the combining of the two lines, so needless to say the regular line all thought we were trying to cut in front of them, because they had no idea we were express pass. We rode this ride a handful of times, there was never a cast member there, until the last day we were there, so maybe they were just short staffed, but I could see a lot of people getting upset each time we jumped through the express pass way.

After the Incredible Hulk we checked out our on ride photo and headed over to Storm Force, the park had just opened to the general public, and everyone was heading to WWoHP, so Marvel Super Hero Island stayed pretty empty the whole time we were there. Storm Force had no wait at all, I always make sure to get these types of rides spinning as fast as possible, my wife just sits back and lets me do all the hard work. After a little bit, my arms started to hurt(I guess I’m getting old), and I was starting to get a little dizzy, I just let the ride finish out and sat back trying to enjoy it.

After Storm Force, we headed to Doctor Doom Fear Fall, again the ride had no wait at all, we walked right in went to door 3, and before you knew it we were being shot straight up in the air with a wonderful view of the theme park. I’m typically not a huge fan on rides that shoot you up or drop you down like Fear Fall does, but I promised my wife I would ride it, and after doing so it wasn’t too bad at all. I didn’t enjoy too much the feeling of my body still going up as the ride stopped, but the view of the park made up for that feeling.

Walking through the exit you could smell Café 4’s pizza, and them getting ready for lunch, wow that smelled good, we decided to eat lunch there later in the trip. We then headed straight for Spiderman, again with everyone heading to Harry Potter and the others heading to Incredible Hulk, we walked right on Spiderman. The ride hadn’t changed from the last time I rode it, other than they updated the graphics, and man did it make a difference, everything seemed so much clearer, and the details stuck out even more than they did before, making it even better than the rides previous to this one. Spiderman is still one of my favorite, and each room you enter puts something new onto you, whether you’re getting a little wet, or feeling like you’re going to come falling to your death. I could probably ride Spiderman all day and not get bored, we poked around in the gift shop for a little, as I rambled on about the new Spiderman movie coming out early July, my wife, bless her heart, has no idea what I’m talking about, but always tries to listen and seem interested.

Once we got through the shop, we took some more pictures and headed through toon lagoon, my wife hates water rides, and we didn’t have our swim suits on, so I didn’t force her onto Rip Saw Falls or Popeye, but we did stop and take pictures of the area.

Once we finished we headed to Jurassic Park, one of my all-time favorite movies, so I love going through this area and listening to the music, taking in the theming, just waiting for a dinosaur to come out and get me. I talked my wife into going on River Adventure with me, despite seeing the huge splash from the final drop, she reluctantly said ok, and we walked right on, again no wait at all for the ride. Before you knew it, we were off on our tour through Jurassic Park, seeing all the dinosaurs, avoiding the watering holes that were spraying water up at us. And then all of a sudden we were knocked off course, and heading straight for the raptor cages, I looked over at my wife, not sure if she was upset because it was a water ride, or she really thought raptors were out, but she wasn’t enjoying herself to much. Now every time before riding this ride, I never got more than a little mist in the face, but this time I got soaked…..and so did my wife, I think it took every bone in her body to not strangle me or toss me off the boat, but she was a good sport and just looked at me shaking her head….but she did enjoy the ride other than getting wet, so it’s not all bad….right?

After Jurassic Park, we headed straight through Harry Potter, man was it packed. People were everywhere, FJ now had a 90 minute wait. Every single person you seen had a butterbeer in there hand, I have never seen one of area of any them park, sell that many of one drink….coke included. Some people had frozen, some didn’t, some had the souvenir cup, some didn’t, but everyone had a butterbeer.

After cutting through we made our way over to Seuss Landing, and went to Cat in the Hat. We only had to wait roughly ten minutes, and we were on our coach reliving one of the great Dr. Seuss stories. I have heard some say this is only a kid ride…..it’s not, while classed as that, it’s one of the best “kid” rides I have ever been on, and I have never seen anyone exit this ride upset, grandparents, moms and dads, kids, everyone seems to love this ride. And why not, the theming is excellent, they do a great job of telling the story, and the ride itself is super smooth and exciting.

After getting off The Cat in the Hat, we got on the Seuss Train Trolley ride, this was probably our longest wait of the day, ended up waiting around 20 minutes, but very enjoyable ride, and you get a nice view of Seuss Landing from up above, and a special little treat going through the circus tent.

We had reservations at Mytho’s for 12:30, however it was only 11 and we were starving. We didn’t want to eat, but wasn’t sure what to do to waste another hour. So I talked my wife into a couple more rides to waste some time, we headed for Dragon Challenge, with the new Harry Potter land and FJ, it seems like people forget about this ride, actually we forgot about it. Didn’t really pay much attention to the theming, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes, and we were choosing fire or ice. We went with fire the first time and just chose the row that had the shortest wait time, ended up sitting in the third row, at first we started going up the lift with the ice train, but they slowed our train down and allowed the other train to go ahead to avoid the racing feature that used to happen. The ride itself is one of the smoothest coasters I have been in, very enjoyable and kind of quick, once you go down the hill and through the loop, the ride ends pretty quickly afterwards, but still a very smooth and fun ride one should never skip over.

After Dragon Challenge we still had over an hour until our reservations so we went through Poseidon’s Fury with it being straight across from Mytho’s. I love this show, the actor was excellent and did a really good acting scared, confident or funny whatever he needed to, he brought everything together for the show. Everyone enjoyed the vortex of water, and next you know we were in the middle of the final battle. We were in the front row, the first was very hot, and at times it was a bit crazy trying to pay attention to everything and listen to what was being said, but still never a dull moment in the show, and it keeps your attention through the entire thing.

Finally lunch time was here, we went straight to Mytho’s, our reservations were for 12:30, we got there around 12:15, and they had us seated within 5 minutes. Inside this place is nothing short of amazing, if you’re looking for a nice place to have lunch, try Mytho’s, the inside is spectacular, and the prices aren’t too far off of normal theme park prices. The bread that they bring out for your meal is really good, and eliminates the need to order an appetizer, especially if your there for lunch. I got the buffalo chicken wrap with fries, my wife ended up getting a bacon cheeseburger I believe, both meals were excellent and well worth the price we paid. Whenever I make another trip to Universal, I will defiantly be eating at Mytho’s again, I recommend to anybody to try it as well.

After lunch we were rather tired and decided to head back to the hotel for a nap. I only slept for a little bit, and jumped into my Harry Potter book, while the wife got her beauty sleep. After she woke, she wanted to go to Universal, so we got ready and were heading down the walkway from RPR to Universal Studios.

We first caught the Universal Horror Make Up Show, which is a very funny show, and shows a couple tricks on how they do things in Hollywood. Some humor and language they use during the show is a bit out there, so if you have young kids, you might want to think twice about going to this show. However it is very funny, and very cool to see everything, and I would recommend checking it out if you want to get out of the sun and have a seat.

After the show we headed over to E.T., which had no wait at all, we walked straight up and straight through the doors to the pre-show area. I was kind of shocked and impressed that all the younger kids that were standing next to me knew exactly who E.T. was, props go out to the parents for actually showing them a movie that’s a lot older than almost anything else at the park. The que line for E.T. is amazing and you really feel like you are walking through the woods, however that is pretty much the best part of the ride, the rest of it you can really tell is way past its age. E.T. defiantly needs some lovin to update this ride. The trains on this ride are really cool and give the impression you are on a bike, however the animatronics on this ride are very very outdated, but none the less a fun ride, especially for little kids who could care less about the animatronics.

After E.T., we then headed for……you guess it, MIB, again we did it two more times, each time getting better and better learning more secrets than we knew the previous time.

We were getting hungry and left the park, it was game 5 of the NBA championship and I talked my wife into grabbing dinner at NBA café, the lady told us it was an indefinite wait, but she thought it would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes, we only ended up waiting 25 minutes. We had a perfect table facing the TV and got seated right at the beginning of the game. The food here, was not what I expected, but it was very good, probably one of the best restaurants Citywalk has to offer, and our server was amazing. I can’t remember his name for the life of me, but was hands down the best server we had on the trip. We stayed for the first half and then headed back to the hotel to watch the rest of the game and head to bed.

Coming up Day 4....Tour of Hard Rock Hotel, Universal Studios, IoA and the rain starts.

i'm really enjoying your days at the darkside....

keep them coming, it is a fun read!

Day 4 – (IoA/Universal) Friday June 22nd

We were up an at em, a little earlier than usual, so we decided to make the walk over to Hard Rock Hotel and take a look around. I have stayed at all 3 resorts, my wife has never stayed at Hard Rock. Like all the hotels Universal offers, Hard Rock is just as beautiful as the others, but my wife actually liked the look of Hard Rock more than the other two, we both decided that for our next Universal trip we will be staying in HRH.

After taking a quick tour around the hotel and pool area we headed off to Universal Studios. First stop was Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-it, second time around still as fun as the first time. Again we only had to wait about 20 minutes, this time around I switched it up and chose KC and the Sunshine Band, while my wife stuck with Kanye West for the second time around.

After Rip Ride, we backtracked a little and noticed Despicable Me had a rather short line, so we quickly jumped in line, only had to wait about 25 minutes, which it goes by really quick. Every time I rode this, I enjoyed it more and more, it’s very funny and even has the possibility of a tear jerker moment at the end. And then once you get off the ride the minions are waiting for you, however they will tell you, we don’t take pictures….we just dance.

We next headed for Twister, hardly any wait at all, maybe 5 minutes if that. I dragged my wife up into the front row this time, so we could get a “true” experience of the twister. She didn’t enjoy the front row at all, and decided that we shouldn’t do twister anymore “out of respect” for past twisters. I, like the good husband I am , decided not to push it and not make her do Twister anymore, however I really enjoyed the front row, for whatever reason everyone piles through the doors and heads straight for the back row, so just move over to the far right of the crowd and you will find the first row very empty. I don’t know if it’s always like this in the front row, or if I just got lucky but I didn’t get wet at all from the water, maybe I had a giant guy standing behind me blocking it all.

Once out of Twister we headed for The Mummy, using our express pass, we only had to wait 10 minutes, and we were sitting in the front row yet again. Still one of my wife and I’s favorite rides, a little rough on the breaks, but the rest of the ride is pretty smooth, there were two kids behind us in line who were scared to death. I felt really bad for them, they didn’t want to ride at all, but there parents were forcing them on, I really hope they made it through ok and aren’t scarred for the rest of their lives. A little side story about this same type of situation, a long time ago my family and I had went to Disney World, we were in line for Space Mountain, I think it was roughly a 45 minute wait. There was a dad and his son standing behind us in line, the kid scared out of his mind, didn’t want to ride. His dad kept telling him how scary the ride was, how it’s so fast and you feel like you are going to fall out….blah blah blah. Well after waiting 45 minutes we get all the way up to getting on the trains and the kid behind us decides he doesn’t want to ride, and wants to get off. The dad was furious, but serves him right, tried to scare his son, and ended up wasting about an hour of his day.

Ok side story over, after The Mummy, we then headed for, drum roll please…..MIB again. However we only rode it one time, my wife didn’t score to high, she was getting a little frustrated, so instead of getting hit in the head with her gun, we decided to move onto the next ride.

Again like every ride that uses Express, we went for The Simpsons and it had no wait at all. Even if you didn’t have express, the line was only a 15 minute wait, which is not a bad wait at all. One thing I love about Universal and IoA, the majority of their rides are indoors, and the queue lines are covered, which really came in handy during our trip with all the rain we got.

After the Simpsons we grabbed lunch at Mel’s Drive-In. The crowd was crazy and the crazy mess behind the counter with the employee’s was even worse. It seemed to have way to many people working and they were just getting in the way of each other. We had to wait a little longer than expected to get our food, but a little waiting never killed anyone, except the guy standing next to me. I thought he was going to explode or melt away if they didn’t get his food to him right away. I was praying they didn’t give me my food first, he probably would have attacked me. Once we got our food, we sat on the opposite side of the restaurant from our happy gentlemen that was in line with us. My wife and I both got the cheeseburger and fries and a large chocolate shake. The food was really good, and the shakes were amazing. Although the shake was a little think, and you couldn’t drink it, it was just as good using a spoon. The crew was all extremely nice and kept apologizing for the wait, they had people walking around offering to take up trays and throw away trash for you. Overall I really enjoyed Mel’s Drive-In, easily one of my favorite restaurants inside the park.

After lunch we headed back to the hotel, and went down to the pool. My wife laid out, I swam around by myself like a crazy dolphin. We were only at the pool for about an hour maybe an hour and half and they sky turned a nice shade of black, so we headed up to our room just in time to watch the rain pour in. After sitting around the hotel for a little bit we decided to head back out for dinner.

It was still raining, so we decided to take the boat instead of walking from the hotel, to stay as dry as possible. While the rain was still coming down once we arrived at Citywalk, we decided to grab dinner and see if the rain would stop at all.

We chose Hard Rock Café, which out of all the major restaurants at Citywalk was our least favorite. The inside is really cool, and fun going around looking at all the guitars and stuff. Our server was nice, nothing super special but not bad at all. We got the nacho’s as an appetizer, which were excellent, but very filling and put a stop to us being able to finish our entrees. My wife ended up getting a chicken sandwich(I think), I chose a crazy sandwich can’t remember what it was called, but it was a cheeseburger, with spicy chipotle bbq sauce and had onion straws tossed all over it. It was very good, but after being stuffed from the appetizer there was no way I could finish it.

After dinner it was still raining, but we still headed for IoA. We made a quick stop inside the souvenir shop and decided to break in and buy some wonderful looking ponchos. Once we were looking stunning in our ponchos we made our way to Seuss landing for a ride on The Cat in the Hat.

I guess the rain scared everyone out of the park, we walked straight on The Cat in the Hat without even using our express pass. It was nice getting out of the rain and being inside the building for a little bit.

We then headed for WWoHP, and decided to get in line for Ollivander's wand experience, which was very cool to see, especially for little kids. The wait can be a little long, which the room does not hold a whole lot of people, but once inside, it feels exactly like the book describes. Wand boxes stacked from the floor to the ceiling, Ollivander then picks a lucky child from the crowd to demonstrate a wand and the magic with it. The little boy that was picked, was extremely nervous in the beginning, but became even more confident with each trick, and by the end loved every second of it. Remember the wand picks the wizard, the wizard does not pick the wand. The kid really thought that wand picked him out. Very cool experience.

After Ollivander’s wand experience we headed over to the opposite side of the park to catch a night ride on The Incredible Hulk. It looks like everyone had the same idea trying to get a night ride on this coaster, the normal line was a 60 minute wait. We ended up waiting around 20 minutes, and got stuck in the last row. It was really rough in the back, and knocked our heads around pretty good….but I still loved the ride, and could never think negative thoughts about The Incredible Hulk.

The rain had finally stopped, once we left the park so we decided to head over to play another round of Putt-putt. This time we chose the Sci-Fi side, which is not as good as the horror side, but still better than any course we have played on anywhere else. I got off to a good start, putting the pressure on my wife early, but half way through she picked it up and came all the way back to tie the score with 3 holes remaining. We were tied going into the final hole, she shot par, leaving all the pressure on me, after about breaking my neck on the final hole, we tied. We both decided, we had to get one more round in before we left to go back home.

After Putt-Putt we called it a night to get ready for Harry Potter bright and early the next morning.

Coming up Day 5....IoA, a concert and UFC.

i was surprised to read you rated Mels a great place to eat.
it's always had negative reports.
i tried it 3x's and quit going there.

i' m still in for a read on the rest of your trip report.

I too had read/heard all the negative reviews of Mels, I was very reluctant on picking that as a restaurant. My wife however loved the look of it, so we tried it out, and got lucky with the food I guess.

But to be honest, we got really lucky with all of our meals throughout the vacation, we didn't really have a bad meal, including us trying sushi for the first time ever.

Usually with each trip/vacation we take, we come across a bad meal, or multiple bad meals.

We got back a couple of weeks ago and I'm enjoying reading your report and re-living my time there!

I have never read any of the books or seen any of the movies……but after going through the area, riding the ride, walking through the shops….I was intrigued, I bought the first book….and LOVED IT, read the entire thing in 4 days.

This warms my heart to read this. I think it's wonderful that the WWoHP inspired you to pick up the books (while you were still on vacation, no less!) which are just fabulous.

We first caught the Universal Horror Make Up Show, which is a very funny show, and shows a couple tricks on how they do things in Hollywood. Some humor and language they use during the show is a bit out there, so if you have young kids, you might want to think twice about going to this show. However it is very funny, and very cool to see everything, and I would recommend checking it out if you want to get out of the sun and have a seat..

Yeah, the guy who was presenting the show told my DS that he was his "real daddy". :rotfl:

I was kind of shocked and impressed that all the younger kids that were standing next to me knew exactly who E.T. was, props go out to the parents for actually showing them a movie that’s a lot older than almost anything else at the park.

If my kids weren't familiar with this movie, I think they would have enjoyed the ride a lot less.

Did you guys not do the Terminator 2 attraction or have you just not gotten to that part yet? That attraction surprisingly impressed me.

We then headed for WWoHP, and decided to get in line for Ollivander's wand experience, which was very cool to see, especially for little kids. Remember the wand picks the wizard, the wizard does not pick the wand. The kid really thought that wand picked him out. Very cool experience.

When we went, they picked a girl who was 21. It was nice to see that they don't always choose a child. My 9 year old is very into HP and probably would've be so jealous to see another kid his age get picked. Or worse yet, if his younger brother would've gotten picked! I knew I'd be buying older DS a wand, but the 5 year old begged for one, too. They wound up choosing Voldemort and Malfoy of all people. How crazy is that?! Did you wind up getting one?

Day 5 – (IoA/Universal) Saturday June 23rd

IoA opened even earlier today than usual, and my lovely wife, being the champ that she is was up nice and early with me to use early entrance into WWoHP. Again getting to the park right when the gates were being opened we followed the crowd back to Harry Potter, the land still amazed me walking in. And now that I had finished the first book and was starting the second book, I actually knew some of the places from the book and brought it to life for me. We headed straight for Forbidden Journey and had no wait at all, still my favorite ride in both parks, and again I was noticing small things from the books that I hadn’t noticed before.

After getting off Forbidden Journey I poked around the shop a little, seeing what I could talk my wife into letting me buy. Without making a purchase, we left and headed for Dragon Challenge, this time we decided to go with the ice side. The ice side seemed even shorter than the fire side did to me, but I enjoyed the ice side more. Still amazed by how smooth this ride was to me, we sat in the front row. There was a girl sitting next to me, who was talking with her friend and mentioned she had never rode a roller coaster before. Thinking to myself, what a coaster to pick for your first, typically most people start off small and move up. She was breathing so hard throughout the entire ride, I was praying she would not have a panic attack. Once we got off the ride she was a little shocked and the ride op had to help her off, hopefully she still enjoys coasters after that ride.

After getting off Dragon Challenge, we followed our previous path and headed straight over to Marvel Super-Hero Island. Spiderman was the only ride currently open, since the park still had not opened yet, so we jumped on Spiderman. There was no wait at all, we were the only ones in our car, which was nice sitting in the front row of the car.

Once off of Spiderman, I again showed my wife a Spiderman shirt, trying to hint she could buy it if she wanted, but deep down I knew that wasn’t going to happen. We then made our way over to Doctor Doom Fear Fall, again we had the same seat, door number 3. The view facing the park, beautiful shot, still scares me to death that I am going to keep on going at the very top.

Then we made our way to The Incredible Hulk, again nobody was in line, so we sat in the front row. The ride still being a little rougher than I remember was a little smoother in the front of the train than anywhere else. I still get super excited each time when the trains blast off and go through the corkscrew.

After getting off The Incredible Hulk, my wife was tired from getting up so early, it was only 10:00 or so. We headed back to the hotel so she could get some sleep, and I could read my book. The original forecast had predicted rain all day, and I was a little tired so I didn’t mind relaxing in the hotel for a couple hours.

After she woke, we decided to head back to the park and grab a late lunch, since we would be eating a late dinner. She was craving pizza, and remember how good Café 4 had smelled the other morning, so we headed there for lunch. We both got pepperoni pizza and a coke, with an order of breadsticks. Maybe I’m not a picky eater, or I’m easy to please but I truly enjoyed the pizza, the bread was nice and soft, very cheesy and tasty, and not super expensive with using AAA.

After lunch we walked around IoA a little bit, I headed over to the comic store and bought a couple new comic books, found an old Captain America comic book on the discontinued rack….YES!!!Then we walked through WWoHP again, bought another Butterbeer, this time in a souvenir cup so I could have something from WWoHP.

Then we made our way out of IoA and headed over to Universal Studios, Josh Turner was playing tonight and my wife loves country music, so I promised her we could go and see him before the UFC fights.

We still had about 90 minutes before the concert was to begin, so we decided to kill some time and ride MIB, 3 more times. I know you might be thinking, man how can anyone ride MIB that much, we both loved it each time we rode it, and both wished we could have rode it even more than we did. Secretly I think my wife wanted to beat me really bad, and would quit riding it once she beat me.

After our third ride we headed back over to the concert area to wait for the concert to start. I don’t know a whole lot about country music, but it really made her happy. All in all he put on a pretty good performance, the crowd was really into it, even though it was really hot. The concert started at 8:00p, we stayed till around 9:00p I was completely covered in sweat from all the people surrounding us during the concert. It’s really pretty cool what Universal does with the concert and how it’s included with your admission to the park. Any park up here in Ohio charges extra for anything like that, trying to grab as much money out of people as they can. For Universal to include that into their admission and have a pretty good line up for the summer concert series is very impressive.

After we left the concert we headed to Nascar Sports Grille to have dinner and watch the UFC fight. The main event involved Rich Franklin, who used to be a high school teacher here in Cincinnati, Ohio, which he did win his match as well, way to go Rich!! Nascar was probably one of our favorite restaurants, the service was very good, the food was delicious, and being able to watch TV at our booth was a very neat idea, why more restaurants don’t try this out, I’m not sure. We got the fried pretzels as an appetizer, with honey mustard dipping sauce, which was the best honey mustard sauce I have ever had. My wife got a gigantic 42 oz margarita, which was very good and ended up getting a bacon cheeseburger. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which probably had some of the hottest buffalo sauce I have ever had, you know that hot sauce that you instantly smell and your eyes start to water. Yea, that hot, needless to say I went through a lot of coke, but our server was on top of it and kept my drink full the entire time.

Once the fights ended we made our way back to the hotel, and jumped in bed to get ready for our next day.

Coming Up Day 6....Universal, a very rainy day, lots of time around the hotel.

I didn't end up getting a wand.....yet. I kept looking at each shop that had them all over all the parks, but couldn't decide which one I wanted. But....EXCITING NEWS, my wife and I are going back next October for Halloween Horror Nights, and I will definantly be picking one up then.

I am trying to wait so I can finish all the books and see the movies before I pick one out, or "it picks me out".
