United allowing families to sit together for free

If MCO is involved an Early Bird when you book is must at our airport to get an A or low B on Southwest. Families that can board between the A and B are not rushing to check in, so they may get a C group , but they are boarding before you if get a B group. I just plan on the ticket costing 25.00 more each way.

You think the government exists to help people at the expense of a corporation? The first thread on this subject was locked, it was predictable that this would be a contentious thread also. The Dilbert thread was a predictable mess as well. My point remains, if you don't have an issue with it, and if nobody on Disboards is complaining, just who is your intended target considering the first thread argued all the same points on both sides exhaustively? It's what I call baiting- someone makes a thread they have every reason to believe is going to end up being contentious and leading to locked/points, but leads with the "I don't care either way, but...". I like a lot of aspects of the community forum, but these types of threads just bring out the worst in people. Of course you have every right to discuss whatever you want, and I can not view it if I'm bothered by it, I just don't understand the motivation behind it knowing what it's going to turn into.
You want an honest answer...
1) I had forgotten the first thread on this subject had gotten locked. But the "first thread" was about the government 'mandating' airlines come up with an answer, this was United saying what their answer is. I believe a number of other posters have said they hope this thread stays up to see how things work "IRL".
2) I personally like having conversations about different things. People having different opinions in interesting to me. Just because a topic has a chance of going sideways doesn't mean it will. Look at this one. If you would rather just spend your time in the "name a song with the word song in it" or "count up by 567" threads, go for it. As you say, you're free to read/post/ignore any thread you like.

Absolutely this. Basic Economy should be like the single rider line at a roller coaster - a discount they offer in exchange for being willing to fill up odd spaces. It shouldn’t be sold to passengers under age 12 or to anybody who needs to sit next to somebody specific.
Maybe it shouldn't be offered for reservations with more then 1 pax on the PNR.

Maybe it shouldn't be offered on flights to and from Orlando.

I was just reading a Disney trip report on a different site, not disboards and remembered this thread. Mom, dad and lap baby booked Delta basic economy. Mom admitted knowing chances were that they would not sit together. Mom and dad were placed on opposite ends of the aircraft but felt it wasn't fair of the airline to subject adjoining passengers to a lap baby and so requested at the airport before boarding to get seats beside each other, and they did.
