Can anyone tell me what they thought about United, good or bad?
Do they have personal inflight entertainment screens?
Thanks

When are you planning on flying and do you have kids?

They currently use an older fleet of planes between the US and Australia and there is no personal in-flight entertainment. But United did announce that they would be upgrading their fleet sometime last year? I'm not sure when the new planes will start to run. I have a vague recollection it might be September.

Personally, they are not my first choice airlines to fly with; despite the cheaper pricing. The last time I used them in 2010, I flew solo without my DS. My food was burnt on both the way there and the way back.

But there are a number of others on the Dis that will provide more positive views than me.

The new planes are already in use, so inflight entertainment on all seat backs!

Thank you. The inflight entertainment was the main thing I was worried about as it is a long flight if nothing to do.:thumbsup2

Yeah the inflight entertainment was the reason I didn't like them. :thumbsup2

I'm not that bothered by individual screens as I have an iPad... What I'm normally worried about is the luggage entitlements!!! Daddy needs his 2 bags per person!! All that shopping isn't going to fit inside one bag :)

Run... Run away!

Lost luggage, 4 x reschedules, and just no customer service, not worth saving a few $ for the heartache and pain :(

No airline that flies Aust - USA is great, and there is nothing wrong with United.
Having been a regular customer for years the newer 777s with screens address the usual excuse of those that complain about them.
And if you fly from Melbourne, starting later this year you will get the 787!!! NO OTHER AIRLINE OFFERS THIS!!!

Nothing drastically wrong with United. If you're going to WDW (or anywhere else they fly to) rather than just LA, they have great connections and will look after you well if there are any connection issues.

They also have the slightly more leg room option for only about $150 more, much cheaper option than PE

As others have said, if you're flying out of Melbourne from October 28th then you will get the brand new 787-9s. Plus, it is a lot easier if you're flying on to anywhere else in the States - you can even cut an hour out of your layover.

We are flying United in October this year. They were cheaper than anyone else and also let us avoid LAX which is a bonus:)

Once I found out they had back of seat inflight entertainment I was happy to book!

my problem with united was flying out of lax
on the Saturday night. we were on the plane at 9 only for us not to take off due to a problem with plane. ok that's cool
problem was we got shunted off plane at 1am and dumped at airport with no help.
eventually got a hotel from airline at 2.30am.
found out that 1st and business class were off the plane and in hotels at 11pm.
was told by the hotel this was a regular occurrence on Saturday nights with united.

oh and when we complained about being dumped in an empty airport without help was given a 50dollar voucher to use in the u.s. within the next six months. sent it back with a 'thanks for nothing' note

was also sent a voucher for 50 dollars after we complained about being dumped.
the voucher was valid for six months and could only be redeemed in the u.s.
sent it back with a thanks for nothing note
