UNI transponder questions

I have a few questions regarding the UNI transponder. We live in Maine, which (like the rest of New England) uses the EZ-Pass system. If I order a UNI, can we use it on one of our cars here as well as on rental cars in Florida? Also, do you HAVE to change the license plate on the UNI account if you use it for a rental vehicle? I know with our EZ-Pass transponder, we can use it on several of our vehicles without changing things on the account (although I don't know if DH put more than one vehicle ON the account...)

ETA... Can I just bring my own EZPass and use that? We will be traveling from MCO to SSR, and also will take a trip out to Cocoa Beach one day.

Yes, you should update the license plate on the account to match that of the rental car.

Yes, with limitations on which toll roads you can use currently. The State of FL is in the process of joining E-ZPass which will eventually allow for E-ZPass usage on SunPass toll roads, but that interoperability is not yet in place.

The map in this link shows which FL toll roads (shown in Purple) currently accept E-ZPass:

We will be traveling from MCO to SSR, and also will take a trip out to Cocoa Beach one day.
To use your E-ZPass to get from MCO to SSR:
Take the south exit out of MCO and then head South on SR-417. As long as you don't go past Exit 6 (World Center Dr/International Dr), your E-ZPass will work for the tolls.

To use your E-ZPass to get from SSR to Cocoa Beach:
Use World Center Dr to get onto SR-417 (Northbound). Exit SR-417 onto SR-528 (Eastbound). All tolls plazas headed east on SR-528 from SR-417 accept E-ZPass. Your return trip is the opposite, SR-528 West to SR-417 South to Exit 6.

NOTE: although the map I Linked to above shows the eastern most portion of SR-528 as not accepting E-ZPass, there are NO toll plazas on that section of the toll road.

Thank you so much for this information! Honestly I am more than willing to pay cash for tolls (I have a bag of quarters set aside for that) but am worried that I am going to get "stuck" on a cashless exit.

Order a SunPass esp if going to visit multiple times, Some tolls are discounted with the SunPass just as EzPass in NE offers some discounts for in state pass holders.

Depends on where you expect to use it. Uni pass is discounted for the Central Florida Expressway toll roads that include the main portion of 417 between MCO and WDW. The CFX app is slightly less convenient to use than the Sunpass one, but Uni works for all the EZ-Pass states as well as Florida.

SunPass, Uni/E-PASS, and E-ZPass all pay the same toll rates at CFX toll points.

The additional discounts for Uni/E-PASS are monthly rebates for high volume use. You need at least 20 CFX tolls in a calendar month to qualify. It's unlikely that any vacationer would rack up enough tolls at CFX toll points to earn any rebate.

Thanks, Joel. Always good to have an experienced local hand providing information.
