Wow, just saw this through AOL. Apparently there was an unexplained missile launch off the coast of California and no one is claiming responsibility.

In the video it kind of looks like a flare to me...

We used to send those things up into the sky all the time when I was in the Reserves. They burn brightly, and under the right conditions can leave a pretty impressive tail behind them.

Anyone could set one off, from their back yard.

Now that the news media has it, it is our business. This is reminding me of the Air Force 1 photo op around the Statue of Liberty.

The video said this happened last night around sunset-hardly breaking news any longer. It isn't even on the front page of CNN. It is probably something military and they just aren't releasing what it is yet-or ever.

If that's the case, I think the US Military should be ashamed that they don't recognize it as that immediately.

It's disturbing that it was launched at sea and our Navy knows nothing about it.

...and Vandenburg AFB (missile base) says the missile was not theirs.

The U.S. is beginning to look ridiculous. All the heads of every Department still don't know what it is? But this expert thinks he knows -- so why can't the FAA confirm whether there was aircraft in the area at the time?
