Wonder of wonders - my DH has come up with the idea (on his own!) of instead of spending $600+ in airfare on our DS to visit his GF in Florida over Thanksgiving week that we drive him ourselves and have a little WDW getaway! I am trying not to jump up and down but my big smile and tears are giving it away.

We went last Thanksgiving on a huge extended family trip and had a rough time - I felt awful part of the time and was on lots of pain meds and benadryl for terrible hives. (My daughter still teases me about sleeping thru Fantasmic!) I planned for a year and a half for that trip. We had been planning a May 2006 trip to celebrate our DD's High School graduation and our DS's birthday and I had just begun serious planning on that trip. I'm diving into planning another Thanksgiving trip.

Now, we are going to be more of a budget on this trip of course. The credit cards will have to be used too. Luckily, we have 2 5day US/IOA tix that we didn't use last year(but we'll probably only use a couple of days). But I am not sure whether we should get Annual Passes to WDW or not. Pop Century had some rooms available so I booked one of those, but I would like to try to get something nice but cheap for a few days near Universal.

Has anyone else been thrown into a last minute trip and how did you get everything done so quickly?

A last minute trip is always a wonderful suprise. I hope this trip goes magically!! No hives and no sleeping through shows ;) !!! See you knew your DH was a smart guy!!

Did one in August when my husband had an expected business trip to Daytona Beach. We found out about it on a Tuesday. He was going to fly down from Atlanta on Thursday and come back on Friday. I decided to drive down just for the day. Then he decided why fly back on his own on Friday but drive back on Saturday? But the call of the Mouse was loud so we detoured on the way back and went to Disney World for the weekend.

I used hotwire.com and got us an offsite room. It wasn't Disney World but we were near Disney World. Had a great time, didn't plan a darn thing. The secret is to just take it easy and enjoy your family and don't worry about "a plan". Have some ideas but don't plan it all out.
